+Spoo
On many of the mountain top locations around here, reference is often given to "a Triangle Blazed tree". I have never seen one and suspect that I would not. I assume that we are talking about an actually triangle mark hatcheted into the tree as opposed to spray paint. As such, I have to assume that after 30 years (or more) the hatcheted mark would now be overgrown with new bark. If it is paint, then it too will be long gone. Any insights for me? +bicknell
The ones around here are spray paint, ususally dark blue in a triangle. Can't confirm they are original, and you can't see them from more than a few feet away most of the time...but they are usually there if described. Quote Link to comment
holograph
Spoo, Look at the end of this thread. The blazes leave scars that are visible for a long time. Edited July 29, 2005 by holograph Quote Link to comment
+GEO*Trailblazer 1
So is this a blazed tree? It is blazed on all four sides. http://photos21.flickr.com/29540538_48cb20c969_o.jpg Quote Link to comment
Z15
Very hard to say. A blaze should be about chest high... Several marks on that tree but hard to call them blazes, could be the way the tree grew. couple more old blazes from 1934 for example Edited July 29, 2005 by Z15 Quote Link to comment
+GEO*Trailblazer 1
These old one's like this have very thick bark grown over the #'s carved underneath. They do start a little higher than chest now. This is a very, very Old tree. I have found several others with the new PLSS benchmarks beside them. Some have been peeled back and other's left grown over. The reason is to save the only true evidence intact. Please do not remove any scars from tree's. The more modern one's are more recognizable and do still contain bit's of the Old blue or orange paint. If I remember correctly Blue paint is Forest Land(Federal),and orange is for outside Federal lands. Quote Link to comment
+The Waldo's
This one is from MASON BARRETT HILL RESET MY3836 that I had logged last October and was blazed in 1959. Quote Link to comment
