atascadero
Is there such a thing as a micro bug for micro caches? Of course it wouldn't fit all micro caches. Just wondering. Quote Link to comment
blackjack65
Some people bend the Travel Bug Dog Tag so that it will fit in a 35mm film container. Quote Link to comment
ZackJones
Yup, there's micro TBs. I've found two of them lately. Personally I don't like them, but since it's a TB and I have a real hard passing one of those up I'll go after it. Why don't I like Micro TBs? Because it forces me to hunt micro's which I generally avoid. Quote Link to comment
atascadero
Well, Zackjones I'm not trying to make your life harder. I swear. Are the micro bugs you saw just modified dog tag style or were they sold as micro's and if so who sold them? Quote Link to comment
-Hawk-
Nice concept, but I am not sure that the intended purpose of them will end up working out if you are thinking of a micro only TB. Most of the micros that I have ran across..ie film canisters and the ever popular mint tin, seem to be pretty taken up by the log sheet itself, and/or a small trinket, so I am not sure there would even be enough room in a majority of the micros for even a micro bug. I think it would on more occasions than not, end up being placed in a small or regular container. Not to say I wouldnt grab it, it is afterall a TB.This is of course MHO. +atascadero
I agree Hawk. This could be problematic. If I do this I would make it clear on the TB's site that it ONLY be placed in caches that could handle it. I need to think about this some more. A standard TB could be modified easily while retaining the serial number but I would never want to burden anyones cache through my efforts. Thanks for everbodys input! Quote Link to comment
-Hawk-
That is of course unless you are using just the dogtag with nothing attached to it and placing that into the micro cache. Which has been done on a rare occasion. Quote Link to comment
Beffums
oh, when I read the original post, I interpreted it differently. but, what I thought they were asking has me wondering. Does anyone know if there is any thought to making a smaller TB dogtag? so that they might fit in smaller caches? Some of my TB's are quite small, so that the dogtag is the limiting factor (most aren't!) , but I've always wondered if they'd ever consided a mini-tag for mini-TB's. Quote Link to comment
atascadero
Actually Hawk, that is what I was thinking. My thinking is to cut the bug to the lower portion that shows the ID number and if you flipped it over it would still show the Groundspeak logo. I would then just stamp additional info in the lower curved area. Small and wouldn't take up much space in a film canister size cache. Might get lost quickly though. Just thinking out loud here. +atascadero
That's what I'm thinking ,Beffums. Why are TB's limited to bigger caches? Wouldn't it be neat to be able to add them to micro caches which are growing in popularity? Quote Link to comment
-Hawk-
Part of the appeal of a TB to me is seeing the different and imaginitive things that cachers attach to the travel bug and the unique missions they have for them. If there was to be just a mini dog tag in a cache with nothing attached to it for the sake of putting out one because it was able to fit, I think it detracts from the appeal of a 'Travel Bug'. I am not saying that I would'nt grab it to help it log miles, but some thought needs to be put into how you would implement this idea, and would it survive the trip past the novelty concept of it. I do like the idea of doing this, but it still needs some refinement. I will keep my eyes peeled for a mini-bug in the future. Quote Link to comment

the hermit crabs
This picture of the Respect the Deer Tick TB was recently posted in the thread "New England Travel Bugs: tell us about extremes you've found". It fits inside a 35-mm film canister. If you go to the advanced TB search page and search on the keyword "micro", you'll find a bunch of different bugs that are small enough to fit in a micro container (though you'll have to wade through some that aren't). Some are just the tag, though some have tiny items attached. I remember seeing a post recently where someone made a copy of the TB tag with Shrinky Dinks and after shrinking it was about a quarter of the size of the standard tag. +Nocturnal Navigators
I don't know that I'd place a micro bug, but these are pretty interesting. Is this allowed by the offical GC rules though? I know you can't have a virtual TB, for the example of your TB goes MIA...then your copy gets placed and also goes MIA...then that's it. Is it okay with the powers that be if you make your own tag? +ZackJones
Is it okay with the powers that be if you make your own tag? Abolutely. As long as finders can read the number for the TB there's no problems logging them. Quote Link to comment
Nocturnal Navigators
Guess I never thought of that. So really no TB ever has to be "dead". If you can just make another I guess. Good idea. I'm going to continue browsing through the micro bugs, some intersting things out there. Gives me ideas.....maybe not for a micro, but something out of the ordinary. Quote Link to comment
Markwell
I started Milo with the specific intention of having him be a micro-cacher TB. He was in the trusted hands of several cachers... I placed him in GCG6JJ (one of my micros) He went to GCG66Q and GCG4RZ within the course of a long holiday weekend. Picked up four days later and moved to GCFDF8 The guy who picked him up from there held him for a month, and finally placed him in a cache across the state line into GCFDF8 in Indiana. From there he was picked up four days later by a guy who never responded to any e-mails. Let's see... 70 miles, and 5 caches, over the course of 39 days, and he disappeared. I'd say that this experiment of mine failed. He had a micro-life... Quote Link to comment
Trail bandit_blood hound
Dnk if there is you could make one if you would like to Quote Link to comment
atascadero
Great info and bugs. Thanks for sharing everbody. Milo story brings a tear to my eye but seriously that just has to suck to loose a TB! Why don't people at least return it they aren't going to do anything with it! Quote Link to comment
RebelJedi
Ckreef & Hawke have put out a few micro TB's. The one's I have found are actually a small dog tag with the TB number engraved on it with some type of small figure attached. I have found them in MKBs. They fit in the boxes pretty well with the log. Go to http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.as...f4-3363776daa69 if you want to see an example of thiers. Quote Link to comment
