+Distraction
OK. I love and hate my Magellan Explorist XL. It's really cool and does tons of stuff my old Garmin GPS 72 couldn't. It's also a pain in the posterior. I finally figured out how to upload DirectRoute. So then I used GSAK to create a .gpx file from a pocket query, which Magellan's Geocache Manager can open. I see the waypoints listed on the screen and save it to my GPS. But then, only SOME of the waypoints actually make it into the unit. I've figured out all the stupid directory structure navigation and gotten to the file, and there are a bunch of geocaches from that file I created, but not all of them. Any ideas? vagabond
how many are you trying to load, there is a 200 limit for each file but you can have as many files as you want. Which should be loaded to the sd card Quote Link to comment

And it has sucked so far. I wanted to take my son geocaching with my new toy, and I was getting SO FRUSTRATED because of the difficulty of using this thing. I didn't see any 200 cache limit anywhere in the documentation, but it must have been dropping them in some way that was invisible. I filtered my GSAK file down to 198, used the Geocache Manager again and THERE THEY ARE! Vagabond, your answer was perfect, and because it was SO FAST, you saved my birthday! Well, excuse me, I'm going to go geocaching with my son now. Thank you so much! Matt (Distraction) Quote Link to comment

+renruts
If you do not include the extra notes when exporting you can have more than 200 per file, but the limit is currently 200 caches with notes per file. You can have multiple files you just have to choose which one is active. I also do not transfer from GSAK to Magellan GC Manger. In the export function of GSAK you can export to Magellan Explorist and SD card, and it will spit out your .gs file for you to transfer right over. with doing it that way I build a filter to limit my radius in gsak to get the amount of caches close to 200 then limit to 200 in the export. Have fun! Quote Link to comment
medallionhunter
How do you get the .gs file into the exp? Each time I export from GSAK, the file is there but the EXP can read it? What's the best method? Quote Link to comment
+embra
You have to send the gs file to the Geocache POIs folder, and then you need to make the file active via menu/preferences/active setup. Make sure that Geocache Icons are toggled on in the map display window. Quote Link to comment
rmm200
You might consider it a stupid file structure now - but the flexibility it gives you is one of the best features of the eXplorist line. I really expect Garmin to copy it. Robert Quote Link to comment
+EScout
GSAK does not automatically add the .gs file extention which needs to be there for the file to be seen. Do this and what Embra says above. Quote Link to comment
