+pwatol
I was thinking about helping to beef up the submissions for Michigan historical markers, but there's no easy way to figure out if the markers I know of are already in the system without grabbing the coords and trying to enter them (which could get annoying quickly if I end up submitting multiple repeat waymarks). What's the chance of getting a view map link like on the gc.com site and/or a Google earth kml option? Thanks Link to comment
+Shorelander
I know there's already a KML option - but its on a per-category basis. Select categories as "favorites", and then go to your page ("My Page") and click the thing that says "View In Google Earth". SLer Link to comment
+The Blue Quasar
Well the Google Earth KML option isn't very useful since Groundspeak (and understandably so) has an auto-shift for all of the Geocaches so you can't see their true location (as much as 300 yards it seems, as a guess). I'd guess they would do the same with Waymarking. And not to get off on a Rant, but only the USA maps on Geocaching.com are actually useful for street level navigation. Ours don't give anywhere near the detail yours do. Currently, at least from where I'm sitting, the only useful option is to click the "Google Maps" link on the Waymark page then toggle to Satellite view or Hybrid. I usually just stick with the default which shows roads anyway. The Blue Quasar Link to comment
+The Blue Quasar
Really? I don't see "View in Google Earth" when I follow those steps. I see "Map It" in the top right hand corner.... but it's the same low level mapping I generally ignore. Where do you see that link to Google Earth? I even looked right in one of the entries... not there either as far as I can see The Blue Quasar Link to comment
+Shorelander
Are you sure you're looking at your "My Page"? This is what mine looks like (minus the formatting): SLer PS: I checked, and they don't add the random auto-shift like they do for geocaches. Link to comment
+Black Dog Trackers
When I click on that, I get this: Directory Listing Denied This Virtual Directory does not allow contents to be listed. Link to comment
+The Blue Quasar
Oh there it is! Thanks, that is really cool to add that to the other Groundspeak icons. And they actually appear to be accurate, not off-set like Geocaches are Neat! The Blue Quasar Link to comment
+Shorelander
Out of curiosity, what icons do you see? For me, everything shares the generic Google Earth icon. Link to comment
Jeremy
Out of curiosity, what icons do you see? For me, everything shares the generic Google Earth icon. They're just the standard icons for now. There are definite plans to enhance this in the future (like having links to the actual waymarks). Link to comment
+Black Dog Trackers
I still get nothing from that link. I have tried Netscape. With Exploer, I get: ========================== You are not authorized to view this page ========================== Anyone have an idea why I get this? Link to comment

There are definite plans to enhance this in the future (like having links to the actual waymarks). This bug has been fixed now. The reason you specifically haven't been able to access that link is because you haven't signed the Groundspeak licensing agreement. Clicking the KML link will direct you to the correct place now. Sorry for the inconvenience. Link to comment
+Black Dog Trackers
Cool, thanks, bootron! I have now agreed to the agreement. Now when I click on "View in Google Earth", the Google Earth software comes up with the view of the Western Hemisphere but I get the error message: Open of the file C:\WaymarkFavoritesNetworkKML.kml" failed: Parse error" Expected comment or processing instruction at line: 17 at line: 16. I don't know what this is supposed to do. The .kml file seems small. It doesn't matter whether I Save the file or Open it (with Google). The error message is the same although the disk location is different. Link to comment
+Black Dog Trackers
I still get nothing but the error message and the view of planet Earth with this. I have tried this both at work and at home with the same results. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm not even sure what this feature "View in Google Earth" is supposed to do. What is the .kml file and what should it contain? Link to comment
+Black Dog Trackers
The google map thing works great at the geocaching site! However, in the Waymarking site, I keep getting the same error message: C:\WaymarkFavoritesNetworkKML.kml" failed: Parse error" Expected comment or processing instruction at line: 17 at line: 16 I've tried many times. Has anyone gotten the google earth map indicating waymarks on a map? Link to comment

I opened the kml file in notepad and deleted everything below the "</NetworkLink></kml>" line, saved it and opened it google earth and it works fine. Jeremy
One thing we plan to do is integrate Google Maps with Waymarking like we do on the new beta page. Once we sort out the issues with Google Maps we'll work on adding them to Waymarking.com Link to comment
