+Lopesco
Greetings from Portugal!! Hi all. Just to tell everyone my adventure. I went last week to CUBA for some summer hollidays with my girlfriend and, off course, I carried my Garmin. I was going to try to let a portuguese Geocoin in some cache in CUBA (http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=444996). When I'm out the plane in Varadero, I've pass the metal detector, but my GPS don't... GPS Receivers are forbidden in the land of Fidel Castro!! Off course if you carry them on the luggage and if you are lucky, you can enter the receiver in Cuba, but, even so, it's illegal to use them there. At the end of the vacations, I had to pay 11,20 convertible pesos ( more or less the same in €) so I could bring my Garmin home again (the first 5 days are free, but after that, you have to pay 3,1 per day plus 1% the value of the equipment). So, maybe Geocaching in Cuba it's not very "safe". Best regards!! João Lopes & Cristina Cruz Quote Link to comment
btrodrigues
Seen in: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php...c=37145&hl=cuba In general, don't expect to be able to bring a handheld GPS into countries that the US has a serious problem with; Cuba, N Korea, Iran, Iraq, etc. Expect to be able to bring it into countries we are friendly with. they'll bust you for taking your GPS along, just because it uses north-american technology. but they're ok with coca-cola and the allmighty USD. bastards. +gof1
Thats it, I am not going to vacation in Cuba! OK, so I wasn't going to vacation in Cuba any how. Quote Link to comment
ElevenBravo
I bet I could take mine to Gitmo. :-) Quote Link to comment
+NorthWes
If I was a Cuban 'unfriendly to the US' govt official, the GPS reciever I'd be worrying about wouldn't be handheld... it'd be aboard something with wings... and it ain't gonna get stopped by the customs police. Quote Link to comment
+oldsoldier
I had my GPS while stationed at Gitmo...never found the only cache there though. Never really had the time. Guess it depends on where you "vacation" Quote Link to comment
