Thread owners can't lock the threads anymore?

last night I posted a thread to the GPS garage sale forum, but when I went to lock the thread I didn't see the little "MOD" box or any moderator options that would allow me to do so. I've seen other posts from users who can't see them either. Did something change?

I'll see of I can lock this thread after I hit the post button...

Edit: Nope, not seeing anything...

Sooo, do we ask a MOD Squad member to lock our threads, or are they stuck open forever?

"Stuck"? Most threads never get locked.

Right, but in the unlikely event I actually start a thread and the topic has run its course, question answered, somebody calls me a big booger head and I want to take my toys home, etc I would like to be able to close my own discussion.

Or, in the case of the GPS garage Sale forum, threads where the item was sold are supposed to be closed. It's requested in the FAQ. Having a bunch of old open threads there isn't helpful.

I realize there were issues with people being big booger heads, but why not punish those particular folks, rather than all of us?

Help, help, I'm being repressed....:)

I don't understand the problem. You ask the Mods to close it, and they do it. I can see the mods being irritated at the extra duties, but it doesn't really hurt anyone else.

Not a problem. Minor inconvenience at the worst. Having the ability to lock a thread is nice, but I can still find caches whether I have that functionality or not. And it won't bother the Mods. That's what they get paid for. :)

All you have to do to get a post locked is post the right message.

Of course, you may get banned at the same time, but your thread will be locked if not deleted.

... and I can help with this.

Who wants to talk about Briansnat?

And from what I hear, they got a 30% raise for the extra headaches they'll have to put up with. :P

That's only for supermods like mtn-man and Keystone. Mods like me only got 20%, but we're not bitter or anything.

Unfortunately due to some abusive users also using the "unlock" feature for their posts, we removed the ability to lock them as well as unlock them. Unfortunately the forum software doesn't separate out the two features.

Odd.

Whenever I unlocked my thread that was previously locked by a moderator (when I was doing those sorts of things), the mod re-locked it and spiked my warning meter or sent me to timeout.

Could this be a temporary "until the abusive users get tired and move on" solution?

Well, pull yourself together and maybe you'll reach that "supermod" status. :D

Unfortunately, you are a prime example. You continued the behavior despite warnings and time outs. Maybe if you would have learned from the first time instead of repeatedly doing this, it would not be an issue at this point. "Abusive user". Your term. Interesting. :P

That took a moment to sink in, but was absolutely hilarious. :P

Me too. :):unsure::blink:

Dang, I was told they got a 10 percent raise. I think Hydee likes Keystone better than me. I bet he got a 50 percent raise.

What in the heck are you talking about?

What part of "when I was doing those sorts of things" didn't get through with you?

Do you even know when the last thread I started was closed AND subsequently re-opened by me? I haven't even been in the forum acting anything like that for over a year! Are you saying that the current change in policy is somehow related to my prior bad acts of over a year ago?

On TOP of your insinuation that I had something to do with this, you're just plain wrong. "Abusive user" is Jeremy's term and I even quoted it in my post!

I'd report your post for violation of the forum guidelines if I thought it'd do any good. Geez, what a jerk!

Actually, I am happy if you are no longer doing these things. Actions speak volumes. The effect was cumulative, of which you are/were a part of the problem by your *own* admission.

Whenever I unlocked my thread that was previously locked by a moderator (when I was doing those sorts of things), the mod re-locked it and spiked my warning meter or sent me to timeout.

It might have been some time ago, but it was a part of the cumulative issues that lead to the action. That was my point.

Sorry for confusing your quote marks regarding "abusive user". Jeremy never said what you have in quotation marks, so I did not take it as if you were quoting him. I took it as if you were just augmenting part of your (argument) regarding the new policy. I don't see where my actions violate the forum guidelines, but feel free to report me. I'm a big boy. I've been smacked by Jeremy before. He knows I can take it.

Geez, what a jerk!

Glad to see you are no longer an abuser. :P

From the forum guidelines...

Some things to keep in mind when posting:

Respect: Respect the guidelines for forum usage, and site usage. Respect Groundspeak, its employees, volunteers, yourself, fellow community members, and guests on these boards. Whether a community member has one post or 5,000 posts, they deserve the same respect.

Personal Attacks and Flames will not be tolerated. If you want to praise or criticize, give examples as to why it is good or bad, general attacks on a person or idea will not be tolerated.

I've reported your post based on these guidelines.
