Am I allowed to change my Geocaching username? In the 4 Wheeling community I'm known by another name and would like to tie my 2 favorite activities together by using the same "name" in both.

Thank you for taking the time to write. I am sorry but we are unable to make any changes to usernames. You are welcome to create a new name and relog your finds on the new account. I, for one, am quite anxious to find out what this wonderful feature that caused the user names to be locked is. Have there been hints I have missed about it?

Yes, you missed the hints. Ambrosia's post accurately answered your question. I am sure she didn't want to stray too far from the topic of "Changing My Username."

 

I will be brave and venture both a bit off topic and a bit beyond the scope of your question. The new feature which necessitated the username freeze has already been rolled out. Groundspeak now offers the first location-based forum! It is pretty cool being able to start a forum thread with coordinates associated with it, so that people can search for discussions in that particular area.

Really? Where can this forum be found? Was there an announcement about it? Never mind. I found it. Apparently the "Groundspeak Forums" title at the top of this page doesn't actually mean that.

 

But to stay on topic, why on Earth would this feature require a freeze on usernames?

 

Maybe I just hadn't heard about it because I am not in the "in" crowd -- a point that was made to me most effectively earlier in this thread. Hmm.... I am liking Waymarking less and less.

I won't bother with the technical details on why this necessitated the username freeze, because I'll bluntly admit that I have no idea. :laughing:

I beg to differ. But then, my personal feelings about Waymarkers probably cloud my judgment. I'm sure you are all quite pleased over there about how you're the "in" group. Goes quite nicely with the rest of the attitude.

 

I also remain mystified that the new forum was not announced by the same mechanism used to annouce the username lockdown (you know, in that "Announcements" forum that you so helpfully pointed out is still over here), but that's water under the bridge.

 

But neither is relevant here; thanks for the info on why the usernames were locked.

I looked in my fridge for some cans of attitude but you drank them all!

 

The intent is to move over to the portal from here once we have the proper conversion code in place to do so (and once the testing is complete). Since Waymarking is still beta it is as of yet unofficially released and therefore isn't above the radar yet. Once it is I assure you that announcements will spread like blossoms.
