michael1987
First of all I'd like to say hi, been on here and searching for a good year and a bit now but hardly ever use the forums. So for the question, sorry if it's been asked, I couldn't find it in search, but can anyone tell me some of the hardest caches in the UK to find, I've found something somewhere about US ones but not UK. thanks, michael Quote Link to comment

+Simply Paul
Hardest is a pretty subjective term. My 'hardest to find' cache was one of the easiest to actually locate, but very hard to get to; Britains highest Geocache. Lists tend to be based on terrain and difficulty ratings -set by the owner- which range between 1 and 5 in .5 incriments. There's a tendancy for some setters to exagorate, but I guess it's the best guide to 'hard' caching there is. Quote Link to comment

A hard puzzle ? A hard to find cache like a hollow boulder in a boulder field ? Or hard terrain halfway up an 8c climb with a ban on top roping / abseiling. Or a combination ? Also some people use the difficulty to reflect how hard they think the puzzle is which can confuse things somewhat. It was because of this variation that i expanded the list to include caches rated at D4 and T4 and above. as we do them i will add comments with our opinion but it will take us a while to do all 200 Quote Link to comment
+Alibags
Mark & Lynn, would you welcome comments for the caches that some of us have done but you may not have done yet to add to your bookmarks? For example Kaki's Cache at Higher Sharpnose Point which I have done and loved, although I did find the walk quite an effort! Quote Link to comment

It would make the list more usefull if we put comments in from people who have done them things like deserves its terrain rating but not the difficulty or much harder than three trolls, the main difficulty is you need to of done a fair sample of them to achieve ballance after all they are meant to be the hardest in the UK Quote Link to comment
+Simply Paul
Can I volunteer this one if it's not on the list already Quote Link to comment
+Eckington
Can I volunteer this one if it's not on the list already Now, why is that I wonder Paul, not a leeeetle bit of subtle advertising of course not Quote Link to comment
markandlynn
Can I volunteer this one if it's not on the list already You need to up the difficulty to get it on the list. its for caches with combined high difficulty and high terrain. our latest cache gets in though (repairing it at the weekend) Quote Link to comment
+currykev
I do believe that the hardest ones are those I DNF. Quote Link to comment
michael1987
sorry for the vagueness, i think i was on about a combination of all the things listed above. hard puzzle caches, or ones needing tools to retrieve maybe. basically i just wanted to look at caches that have been rated as 5* and see how they seem. There are currently 73 active 5/5 caches in the UK all are on the list linked above. IMHO some of these are overated and similarly some rated at T4 are underated hence the list being expanded. I obtained this information using a pocket query which is a premium member feature only. Alternatively you can search at GUK and sort by D and T by clicking on the top of the relevant column (linky to one ive just done) or use this list as an alternative starting point. Hopefully one of those will help you narrow it down a bit. Quote Link to comment
+Jaz666
Don't forget that the Markwell system of rating caches suggests that any cache which involves using Specialist equipment, that you would not normally carry with you, should be classified as having a Terrain of 5 stars. I know a few caches near me are rated as such. Quote Link to comment

You will need a Maintenance plan to enable me to to publish it Proof of regular visits to the area to visit family or a holiday home, or for work purposes. Or for other leisure activity's.
