acornsnoaks
We are planning on getting our 5 year old daughter a handheld GPS unit for a Christmas gift so we can geocache as a family. Can someone recommend a good brand/model for a preschooler/elementary age child? We are looking to spend between $100-$250. Thanks! Quote Link to comment
+Team Teague
We bought our 6 year old a blue Etrek Legend on ebay for about 75 including shipping. The only bad thing is it's a serial port so if you are using a laptop or new computer, you might not have that. He loves carrying it, and it's sturdy. He can also beat us to the cache most of the time. We are planning on getting our 5 year old daughter a handheld GPS unit for a Christmas gift so we can geocache as a family. +briansnat
For a 5 year old I'd recomend a Garmin Geko 201. It's a very small unit that would be easy to hold in small hands. It's extremely easy to operate and pretty rugged. You can usually find it for around $100. Quote Link to comment

knowschad
Never underestimate a child's ability to use current technology. Nor their ability to totally enjoy the box that it came in. Quote Link to comment
+meralgia
Try craigslist (if it's widely available in your area) to avoid the shipping and handling costs. We got our blue for $60 (after driving 10 minutes to the guy's house and caching all the way back). Edited November 14, 2007 by meralgia Quote Link to comment
