Is there a way to make avatars not appear?

I know that the forum software was not written by Groundspeak, but maybe someone here knows: is there a way that I can make forum avatars not show up? (Other than dragging the window partly off the left-hand edge of the screen.)

I looked in "My Controls" and didn't see an "ignore avatars" option or other obvious way to do this, but I'm hoping that it's something easy and I'm just being oblivious to it.

Why would you want to turn off the Avatars? But no, I don't think there is a way to do this I'm afraid... :D

It is kind of drastic, but you could turn off "Show pictures" in your browser preferences. :D

Go to "My Controls" (link at the top of the forum page).

Click on the "Board Settings" link under "Options" in the menu on the left-hand side of the page.

On the page that comes up, under "Board Display Settings," the third question asks, "Do you wish to view members avatars when reading topics?"

Answer that question "No."

Click the "Change My Account Options" button below that window.

You will now have a forum browsing experience totally devoid of goats and half-naked men.

Thanks! I didn't dig deep enough.

And it's not the goats that bother me... :D

some of them just creep me out

anyway, Lep's solution is working just fine for me now, although I will truly miss the daily morphing of Blue Deuce's wonderful selection of avatars. But it's the price I gotta pay.

For a minute there I was thinking it was mine you were trying to avoid. :D

I tell you what, I'll email you every time I change. (Now where's the most evil smiley I can find)

fully naked is okay -- that's art. it's that fractional stuff that bugs me ;)

So fully naked cows are ok then?

yes. and cows with hats.

That's udderly ridiculous. :D

Give the man a cigar and another $5 dollars for playing You Bet Your LIfe!

btw, if you just want to block SOME people's avatars, such as half naked men, this is easily possible with firefox extensions such as AdBlock plus. You simply right click any image and choose to block that particular URL.

I did it months ago.

Am I the only one who knows that's from Rush 2112?

Now the other naked man, the self-proclaimed "hottie", that's kind of strange. :D

Team Cotati 's avatar creeps me out.

And I live in that bastion of weirdness Massachusetts where we all voted against a certain kind of marraige but the Legislature decided that they know better than us.

How do you know the Cotati hottie isn't hetero? <Seinfeld>Not that there's anything wrong with that.</Seinfeld> :D

I don't know and it does not matter. The image itself creeps me out.

Perfect! Thanks!! Now I won't have to miss all those blue avatars, or the cow's holiday get-ups. Cool. Thanks again.

Its orientation isn't an issue at all for me -- just its general creepiness.

Agreed. It kinda bothers me that I would most likely get a warning or worse if I had a chick with a tiny bikini as an avatar but that particular avatar seems to be ok. Why is that? :)

Nope, in fact for $50 you can go out to amazon and buy a Rush 2112 Man in Star Tapestry Throw Blanket.

Probably a zany Canadian. One of the 3 or 4 times I've seen Rush, they had a huge neon 2112 guy behind the stage.

I think you'd probably be ok.

Does this method prevent viewing ALL the avatars of someone who might change their avatar daily?

I'll have to see if the URL to ones active avatar is a constant while the pool of images in their avatar each have a different URL.

I'm in agreement that certain avatars I'd block but that's by no means means all of someones avatar are objectional to me.

I'm pretty sure the word "cotati" is Italian for "nipples."

Done! I've had Firefox for 6 months or so, and it hadn't occurred to me yet to do that.

No more Italian nipples! Hooray!

Are we allowed to say nipples? :D I'm surprised the "hottie" hasn't chimed in, he usually has plenty to say. :D

I'm a firefox user most of the time, but I didn't know about that extension. I do know that many BB code forums on the internet allow you to turn off Avatars and/or signatures. Especially ones that allow all sorts of obnoxious animations. I'd imagine that option exists for this software, it's just not enabled.
