Forum errors

I've been getting PHP errors when using the forums on and off for the past several days, it usually happens when opening a link that came in my email saying someone replied to one of my posts, or sometimes when I have been posting a reply to another post. It's always when accessing the server of course.

The errors usually look like this:

Usually I just try again in a few minutes and it works out. When I'm trying to post a reply, I know from experience that the posting has usually gone through anyhow, so I don't bother hitting back and reposting it again, because I know this will result in a double post. Whenever I see a double post in the forums, in my head, I think this is what is going on.

See, it's happening right now. Where it's hanging up while trying to post this. It's about 5:02 PM right now. We'll see if this goes through.

I have experienced the same thing. It doesn't seem to be linked to the time of day, I was getting them early this morning and this evening.

I agree, it does not seem to be tied to the time of day, other than it's mostly times that would be busy in the Pacific time zone (where Groundspeak, and I are both)

We know Duke. The forum is not built to handle a community of this size so we're looking at replacing it with Community Server. After the next release we will begin development of the new forum.

In the meantime, it's helpful to remember that seeing the error in your screenshot, in most cases, does not mean your post didn't go through. You should return to the thread and check to see if what you posted was successful before re-posting. This is the cause of all the double posting we've seen lately.

Well, speaking as an I.T. professional, my quick answer is usually to throw more hardware at the problem and hope that fixes it. But the forum probably already has a beefy server behind it, so the next step would be to have multiple servers running the forum, and then put them all behind a load-balancing switch.
