May 1 by SOME CLUELESS CACHER! (5254 found)

Came right over from ET Phone Home so you know we were here...was at ground zero but cache was no longer...took photo with GPS at the 'spot' and since ANOTHER CACHER had previously found this cache, they confirmed that it is MIA.

My heart about stopped when I read that. I thought that was me for a sec when my eyes just jumped to E.T. Phone Home as ETPH is one that just the other day, I logged as a DNF when I *know* I was at the right spot but couldn't find the cache. What a relief when I realized it was someone else (b/c I know I logged mine as a DNF!)...

I'm very new to this sport and it would never occur to me to log a cache find just for being in the spot where the cache SHOULD be. There was one that I think was rated 1/1 that I almost couldn't reach (and I'm 5'6") so if I hadn't been able to reach it, I *might* have logged a find before reading all of this...

Hmmm...well, when you hit 52 caches in one day sometimes it's not easy to remember the details about every cache, and this is just one of those moments. I didn't have a check mark next to the cache name, but my girl JJJJJ assures me we were here and placed a sticker in the logbook. TFTF!

June 3 by TSSSSSS (495 found)

If JJJJJ placed a Chicken Run sticker here, I was here. And I'm sticking to that story. Was this one of those caches she had the coords written on her leg after a phone call? Must be. I’ve always held to “It’s all about the numbers, not the journey” so I’m okay with claiming a cache I can’t remember.

I was at this cache a few days ago and there is no sticker in the log book...

Be PO'd at the owner, not the logger. He allowed them to log it.

I know the cacher you mention. In caches we have both logged and the log hasn't been changed due to being full or muggled, I have seen his signature in every single one. We need more people like him in this hobby. People who really want to go out and find and hide caches and not find fault with others on an internet forum.

The owner didn't do anything. He didn't replace the cache, he didn't maintain the cache and he didn't write the Found log. The log, as written, has nothing to do with the owner at all and reflects the practices of the geocacher logging the find just as the cache has nothing to do with the finder but reflects the practices of the owner.

Logs belong to and reflect the practices of the geocachers writing them.

When I encounter a bogus Found It log on one of my caches I always write a polite note telling people they have logged my cache in error, do not blame me when they won't change their log to a note or a Did Not Find it. I do not look kindly upon people who plant a cache and do not maintain it but I certainly don't blame them for bogus Found logs. I know the guidelines say we (cache owners) are supposed to delete bogus Finds but I have never done that, I do however request a change or deletion by email. I would view a log deletion as encroachment upon something that really isn't mine to control, another's Find count but that is a personal opinion that is in direct contrast to GC guidelines. As a community we do have an interest in identifying bogus Found logs, this thread has many excellent examples, it is easy to find more examples. :D

A Found log confirms that the cache has been found, other log types include "Did Not Find", "Needs Maintenance" and "Should Be Archived" and the catch all category, the "Note". Many bogus Found logs are created by cachers who only wish to increment their Find count. If you go and look for a cache and it is gone it has not been muggled, that is not a log type. Using a Found log to describe a cache that is missing is a bogus Found log, wouldn't you agree ?

It was in the home of the owner's parents, who had left on an out of state trip that morning. The cache will be replaced sometime in the future.

Went out with PPPPP and MMMMM to check and replace this cache if needed. We were armed with photos of the original hide, so we know we got the right spot. The original was definately gone.

PPPP brought an ammo can and all of the swag as well as a log book and pen. We left 2 geocoins since there is an event coming up here in a few weeks and they will get moved along rather quickly that way.

Replaced cache as originally hidden from the pics.

Thanks PPPP for replacing it so we could find it!!!!!

This one sort of bothers me. It is/was one of the classic caches locally. Hidden in 2001 by a team that hid two caches, and have not been active in three years. . And, it is a classic! It took me three tries! Heinously evil cache! But, sadly, it's gone(?) TTTTT and PPPPP set out to replace the cache, meeting MMMMM along the way. PPPPP put out a new cache, and TTTTT and MMMMM found it. None of these cachers had found the original. But, they're sure that it is gone, and replaced it. Hmmm.... I couldn't find any photos that would assure me that I was in the right spot.

Oh, well. Great find TTTTT and MMMMM! ? <_< And who is going to maintain this cache?

I don't know about "lots", but there are some really great ones out there that are, truly, just like that. For example, check out GCp9g9, part of the totally tubluar series in Seattle. We touched it, caressed, yes, even fondled it, but were too dense to figure it out without the hint. So, for us, no find. When we got home, read the logs, it was clear, and we laughed at our toopidity. Very cool.

Easy to find. Box and items missing. Left some items. No GPS.

[view this log on a separate page]

Now this is starting to get really funny. Of course it is easy to find, cause you haven't found a box or items, what did you find, aha, you found a "SPOT", the next finder of the SPOT confirms that indeed nothing is there. Did you notice that the above geocacher said he "left some items" and the very next log entry below clearly states that "no cache contents there now". I wonder what happened to the "ITEMS" that were left at the "SPOT"!

March 23 by nnnnnn (399 found)

June 7 by nnnnnnnnnnnn (257 found)

Not sure if what I found is correct, but I did find an object here that could be a micro cache container, except for no log. I stuck a piece of paper in it to serve as a temporary log, and replaced it where it was. Unless cache owner tells me differently, I'll count it as "found". Thanks for bringing me to this place!

[view this log on a separate page]

Now things have taken a turn for the worse for sure, everybody has found the "SPOT" but this guy could mess it all up by blatantly admitting he found "SOMETHING", this could get ugly. At least he adds paper to the thing that he found so now the spot has a container and a logbook, getting to be regular "NICE HIDE". Problems appear when the next guys shows up and finds another thing that is clearly the geocache, it has no paper it, did some one steal the log ?

June 13 by nnnn nnnnn (2540 found)

Found it - a quick find this time.

Correct container is unmistakable and clearly identifies itself as a geocache. Found no log, so signed and put in part of index card as a log. TN. Thanks for the cache.

[view this log on a separate page]

"a quick find this time", there was another time ?

June 14 by nnnnnnnnn (9 found)

This was our first geocaching experience. Found the log nnnn nnnnn left yesterday. Not many people know about this log cabin in the suburbs. TNLSSL.

[view this log on a separate page]

At least the use of "TFTC" was avoided in this log, very astute of the geocacher to figure out that there was really no one to receive the thank you. Perhaps the new mnemonic should be WITB?. The "SPOT" where there is a "NICE HIDE" has an owner who has been active the entire time on GC, yes the entire time that this was going on, he was even out caching, really. More you say....

June 22 by nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn (514 found)

I love being a teacher and having my summers free. This was the first of 7 finds for me today. I've been to the nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn many times, and never knew this cache was close. TFTH. Found the "temporary index notecard log" but I'm betting that once it rains, it's gonna need replacing again.

June 29 by nnnnn (122 found)

Found late this afternoon while in the area building a koi pond and stream bed water feature. No water resistant container for the makeshift log/index card, so I placed a new micro log inside a 35mm film cannister for future cachers to sign. Thanks for the fun....

-nnnnn

[view this log on a separate page]

If you look at this log above and the log from June 13 and the log from June 7 then you have to be wondering, what the heck has this guy just replaced ? The container which is "clearly identified as a geocache" which was harbouring part of an "index card" or the object that "could be a micro cache container" that had a "piece of paper" added to it on June 7th and was then put back where it was found. Did he just throw out the owner's clearly marked cache container ? If the next geocacher finds something different should they claim a legitimate find as well ? I really have no interest in this beyond the sheer delight in finding such a convoluted cache history, not many stories read like this one. I have included every log entry from the last good find of the "original secure cache container". This is sort of like a cuckoo cache, the original cache has been replaced with something entirely different. This is comedy at it's very best. Do you realize that one of these cachers actually had this as his first cache experience, poor guy.

I ashamed that the person who removed it and took it there is from our area. Seen enough evidence to know that the cacher who had the gall to log it, is a number padder. Hey.. whatever but I have to laugh when other cachers put that person on a pedestal just because of the number "finds". Might as well log the other 99 BoBs while they're at it.

When you find the cache, you will need the combination to the paddlock

So to log this cache you would need to open the lock and sign the log.

This cache is indeed missing, so it's now temporarily disabled.

DISABLED means the cache is NOT THERE, so currently, this cache cannot be "Found". There should be no "Found it" logs entered on this cache page until the cache is replaced and enabled again.

Initialing, signing (or sticking a sticker onto) anything other than the cache log itself does not count as a legitimate "Find" for this or any other cache in this series that is disabled. Please refrain from doing so.

Your patience is appreciated. After all, there are plenty of other, active caches in the neighborhood to be found! Thanks, and have fun!

NO.. you won't be disappointed...

The cache log was at the MidWestGeoBash where I signed it. I was not the party that brought it to the bash so you'll have to ask that person. Since i did sign the offical log, does this count??? Just curious.

That is disappointing  ! With a huge number of finds like that, it certianly makes you question things.

What is the motivation here? It is not like they are being paid by the smiley or anything.

(regarding BBB cache logs showing up at the 'Bash) Looked like there was a cacher from AZ who couldn't log the caches because someone took the logs....

(edit to remove the name of the cache...)

I'm so going to like this thread! Really glad I found it! Here's one of many that appear quite often in the OKC area.

More good ones. All are from the same guy/family.

Well, since not too many people have gone after it, we did a maintence check, and I saw it from the car. So, I signed the log while doing the maintence.

I really love this one... Owner disables it 5 days after logs that state the owner had it were posted.

You gotta love this guy and his family. They're so blatent about thier false finds! Here's another good one...

Since I was here to place the cache, I could not claim FTF, so I came here today to check on the cache on a maintance check and to claim it. It was in the place where we placed it. TFTC

Well they're not exactly false finds. At least the guy is finding caches. Sure its a bit cheesy to log finds for caches that you helped hide, but that's a whole 'nother thread.

Gotta love this one

Looks like I will be the last entry for this poor little micro since the trees are gone that it once was in, but my love said since I helped look for it I can log it as a find. I hate to see this one go but it has to. S The virtual log and said good bye. TFTC

"The old one is under lots of water.

Placed a temp for you at N 37 48.428 W 096 17.332" he claimed a find.

The cache was not underwater and was easily found later that day. Later the same day he he could not find another cache so he put another out, signed it and claimed a find.

I came to find out that person has a history of placing a cache when he can't find one. He had never logged a DNF and has almost 1000 "finds".

Cache no longer there.

The game just got a whole lot easier! Find the cache page and log it as found. Why bother leaving the house?

TeamBarstool is honored to post the 1st DNF for this one. :(

Not into FTF's but when one pops up less than a mile from home you got to go for it.

Got there about 10 mins after the e-mail. Then the GPSr died. went home for batteries.Came back and found someone else there talking to a GPSr. I got to meet xxxxxxxxxx xxx. We searched around a bit then I gave up.

Waited a few hours until it was even hotter out. Brought another pair of eyes and was still defeated.

I"m new but I guess I'll never get the big numbers if I keep this up :(
