+Durango!
I found a nice TB recently in a bag with nice laminated directions for logging it. I'm wondering if anyone else includes TB info and what you print exactly. Quote Link to comment
Azaruk
On my TB's I always include a laminated "mission card". It has the name of the TB and the mission details printed on one side, my caching name, country of origin and maybe a photo on the other side. The card is slightly larger than a standard business card, has a hole punched in one corner and is attached by the TB chain. If I find a TB which has no card attached, forcing me to take it as I don't know what the intended mission is, then I contact the owner and ask if I can make a laminated tag for it. I have never been turned down yet!!!! IMHO it's an essential part of the TB. I remember one TB i took, returned home to log on to find out the mission details, discovered I was not in a position to help, so went all the way back to the cache to replace it. Waste of time. If the card had been attached, I could have made that decision on-site. Edited February 16, 2005 by Azaruk Quote Link to comment
+BlueDeuce
I use the luggage tag size self-laminating ones. They work great. I have a word doc template that helps me know how much space I have on the tag to type in details. For one tag side I use the standard TB notification and on the other I put the TB mission. Here's the notification I use (The text is centered on the card) ============= This is no ordinary geocaching trading item! "Your TB name here" is a Geocache Travel Bug, travelling from Geocache to Geocache on a very specific mission. If you do not intend to log your visit on the geocaching.com web site, please DO NOT TAKE THIS ITEM. Its travels and progress require you to log that it is being taken from this geocache. You will also need to log when you place it in another geocache. It's that easy! +mortaine
I have a laminated mission tag on my Kirei travel bug, which I think works pretty well. I wrote on the outside of the book for the Joke Book bug. And on the Bill of Rights bug, I just used the normal metal dogtag and wrote the bug's destination on a piece of masking tape and attached it to the dogtag. That way, the travel bug is almost entirely metal, very durable, and the masking tape can easily be removed and replaced when it gets to its destination. Quote Link to comment
+MrCOgeo
Have laminated instruction tags that are short and sweet: ----- PLEASE DON'T KEEP ME. Move me to another cache when you can. (or short goal text here) Please remember or keep track of my secret number: 123456 But please don't post or show the secret number in anyway! PLEASE LOG ME AT Groundspeak.COM ON THE SPECIFIC TB PAGE, NOT JUST ON THE CACHE LOG ITSELF. ----- Old example of tag (They've been redesigned since picture, and NO THEY ARE NOT ALL HOT PINK! ): They are folded and attached to Travel bugs, other travelers and traveling GeoCoins. +the hermit crabs
I've experimented with a few different formats, but the one I've settled on lately is a tag about the size of business card; one side has info specific to the bug (usually a paraphrasing of the text from the bug's page), and the other side has a short description of travel bugs and a URL for more info. It's just a Word doc that I fold in half and laminate, punch a hole in, and attach too the TB-tag chain. Here are pictures of the two sides of the tag I just attached to my latest TB, "My Dream Job": One side: Other side: Quote Link to comment
+mortaine
I love the hot pink laminated tag, though. That's terrific-- a guarantee it won't get overlooked in a cache! And a dream job TB.... what a clever idea! I love it when people write creative log entries! Quote Link to comment
+Glenn
If your TB has no particular mission then no big deal if it has a mission card or not. If you TB has a particular mission and you want to give it the best chance for it to actually complete its mission then you should make up a mission card or don't be suprised when it head in the wrong direction or someone holds on to it for a long time. +Sparrowhawk
Here... have a fill-out-able PDF version. Quote Link to comment
+mortaine
My Kirei TB has a very simple mission, which is not much different from "go from cache to cache." It's "go to various alternative/renewable-fuel-related caches." But yeah-- mission cards, or at least SOMETHING that says where you're going, are a must. Quote Link to comment
