+Mama Cache
I have been tring to figure out how to download the checked waypoints from this site. I can't find one of the software listed that supports cobra. Does anyone know what I need to do to download these? I appreciate any help I can get! Thanks Sharonleetx Quote Link to comment
+IV_Warrior
You likely won't, either. From most accounts here, a Cobra GPS isn't worth the box it came in. You'll likley have to figure out how to do it yourself, or (if you can, the better option) return that thing and get a better GPS. Quote Link to comment
+Mama Cache
I am pretty sure I am unable to do that at t his point. .I have been using it for a number of weeks now. I am wondering if I have to do it with the rand mcnally software that came with it. Quote Link to comment
robertlipe
IV's reality sounds harsh, but it matches my impression.. The percentage of Cobra users we see here or gpspassion or such is low, but the percentage of unhappy Cobra users seems disproportionally high. In all my readings, I've not seen anyone successfully uploading batches of coords to these things from any software on any host OS. Certainly there's no code in GPSBabel (and thus, GSAK) to handle these. Sorry. Quote Link to comment
+Mama Cache
So what your saying is that I am better off if this unit should "suddenly" malfunction. Leaving me with no option, but to return it to the store and purchuse something else? I tried to get the Garmin at the time but they were sold out. Now I know better. Quote Link to comment
Neo_Geo
Just your luck that you got one that works Tell them at the store that you've only had a couple of chances to try to use it, and couldn't get it to work right. Odds are they've heard that story before from other Cobra purchasers before Yeah - get a good Garmin model Quote Link to comment
+Mama Cache
it gets better...I bought it at Frys. They are tough. Quote Link to comment
+Cornix
The Streetfinder software from Rand McNally is able to import waypoints in csv format. With GPSBabel you can convert loc/gpx files from gc.com into csv, and after some tweaking of column names, order etc. it should be possible to load them into Streetfinder. Here's a description how to upload waypoints from Streetfinder to your unit: Downloading an address or a waypoint into the the GPS500/1000. Cornix Quote Link to comment

If anyone can send an example of a file that Streetfinder will consume that's been suitably "tweaked" to me, it can probably be added to GPSBabel. In GPSBabel, straight something-separated formats are pretty easy to do thanx to the style sheet stuff that Alex and I implemented. Quote Link to comment
+Mama Cache
I am starting to get incouraged! . But so far I have not been able to get the info into streetfinder. I know how to get it to the gps, if I get it into streetfinder. I REALLY appreciate all your help! Quote Link to comment
+Mama Cache
Soooo.... when you say "tweak" what exactly do I have to do? I keep getting a remark that I successfully transfered 0 files. Any help is appreciated. Quote Link to comment
+Cornix
You need to know the exact format that Streetfinder expects as input. If there is no documentation on that, I would place some waypoints manually on the map and export them to a file (if this is possible). Afterwards I would load this file into Excel and examine the headings and column order. Load your GPSBabel converted cache waypoint file into Excel, rename the field headings and rearrange the columns accordingly (if necessary). Then save the changed data to a file (again in csv format) and try to load it into Streetfinder. You can also send the exported Streetfinder file to robertlipe, so he can integrate that format into a future version of GPSBabel. Cornix Quote Link to comment
vagabond
If you still have the receipt and its within 90 days you should have no problems with frys. And I would concur with some of the others get a different brand of gps. If you do return it try and get there when they open their return lines are a lot shorter then lol Quote Link to comment
