+Team GPSaxophone
Does anyone have the figures on the ratio of regular caches to micros? It seems that when we go out hunting so many great sites which could have supported a micro cache or a small-sized container only have ammo cans. Is it because too many cachers are in too much of a hurry to find the cache and move on? Let's face it, there are so many more places to hide a micro that the seekers would have to spend more time at the cache site. If they find an easy ammo can at the site and move on, they haven't spent enough time there to enjoy it. We need more micros! Quote Link to comment

+denali7
i'm so glad this topic came up! i just had to DNF at a recent walmart parking lot because i was so focused on looking for a cart-corral magnetic micro that i missed the cache entirely. when i got home, the hider generously provided me with the clue that it was in fact a well-stocked ammo box in the middle of the parking lot. silly me, with egg on my face! i'd been meaning to check out the beautiful scenery of that parking lot for years, i just never took the time to stop and smell the roses there. i thought a fabulous micro would be a great reason to step out of the truck and enjoy all that, and here i missed it entirely. i really hate parking lot ammo cans!! +Sonoran Privateers
I can imagine someone making a cache out of a giant dumpster. No one would ever find it, thinking the cache was under it, or near it. Quote Link to comment
CamoCachers
yep, a micro ammo can made to hold only 1 bullet. or even better, make it only big enough for the shell. the bullet would come in a second micro ammo can. and the powder in a third. now thatd be small! and denali, im jealous. i wish there were ammo cans hidden in the lcoal wally world parking lots. +Renegade Knight
I think it has a lot to do with virtuals not being approved. There are so many locations a virtual would fit in that when they are banned cachers are forced to use containers. Quote Link to comment

There are so many locations a virtual would fit in that when they are banned cachers are forced to use containers. Why would the virtuals be banned? I would think they would be the easiest to get approved oweing to the fact they have very little impact and can't be tampered with. But, I'm new. Quote Link to comment
+denali7
while i often agree with RK's posts, i'm not with you on this one, at least not in my area. i haven't been caching very long, but almost every micro i've seen fits into either one of two categories: a ) lamppost/cart-corral/transformer box micro's that show me no more scenery than some dude changing his oil in a walmart lot, or some lady with a gaggle of kids trying to unload her groceries into a minivan, or... b ) an annoying micro in a billion acres of wilderness that could hide a real jeep as a cache container these are all caches that have been around a lot longer than the no-virt fuss. honestly, i would be happy to sign a micro log at a wonderful, scenic area that could have been a great virtual, but i'm trying to avoid the grocery store when i'm caching!! +teamjack&birdie
Emily Litella Called: What's all this fuss I keep hearing about ‘Microbe Catchers’ and those that want to ban them? I say if people want to go around catching microbes they should be free to do so. Why it’s outrageous that some people would try to take away anyone’s right to catch microbes! We live in America don’t we? We should do something about this! I would rather have people running around catching microbes then committing crimes, that brings me to another topic, what’s all this I keep hearing about ‘Saxon violence’ on T.V.? Why I’ve been watching and watching and I haven’t seen it once…… Edited June 27, 2005 by teamjack&birdie Quote Link to comment

+Isonzo Karst
Oh, I soooo agree with the OP, I mean, every time I find myself schlepping down some woodland trail seeing spot after spot after spot where a micro could have been placed, and then finally I arrived and it's some big dumb ammo can under a couple of dead palmetto fronds. Rats. And you open the thing up and there's liable to be a travel bug - staring at you - accusing you of neglect if you ignore it, but if you pick it up you have to go find ANOTHER ammo can to move it......... the torture never stops. Oh yeah, and I've broken finger nails on the ammo can latches. I've never broken a nail on a film can. Never. Manicure safety concerns alone should be sufficient for an ammo can bann. Clearly. Okay, so has anyone done a macro film canister??? Let's see a pic. Love the micro ammo can! Yup. The Sandy Creek Cowboys in East San Diego county create some of the most fantastic, inventive caches around. Here is their Macro Micro. Inside the barrel is a 5-gallon water bottle with more than 60 film canisters inside. You have to shake them out one by one to find the one canister that has the log inside of it . . . It took us 58 tries to finally get the one with the log . . . but we had LOTS of fun. Quote Link to comment
