Revisiting A Cache To Get A Travel Bug - Is It Ok?

Hi,

 

I just wonder whether it is considered as OK

if one visits a cache a second time, because

one is interested in a travel bug which has

shown up there?

Or is that a "nono" and is not considered as

fair behaviour in the geocaching ommunity?

It is perfectly OK. Travel bugs are a different game that operates in parallel with geocaching. They aren't trade items either -- you don't need to leave anything when you pick one up.

Actually, you must be sure to log a note (retrieve) ON THE TRAVEL BUG PAGE!

As long as you do this, it doesn't matter one way or another if you leave a note on the cache page, but most people do.

Playing "Travel Bugs" can be so much fun that you don't have to ever visit a new cache again! You can pick up a bug from a cache you've already found and drop it off in another one you've already found. Sure, this is a little extreme, but I just want to emphasize what otheres have said about it being a different game!

Yes, it is OK. I did this early on, right when I started Geocaching. TB owners will often send you e-mails of encouragement if you help the TBs with their goals.

 

If I'm caching alone, I always post a note on GC.com and also write something in the log book if I'm picking up or dropping off a TB at a cache I've already visited before.

 

You can use the "Write Note" option to drop off TBs the same way as when you post a "Found It" log, in case you didn't know.

For some reason, I'm under the impression you're supposed to log your visit in the log book any time you visit a cache. Is this correct or not?

To claim a found on a cache I do. Picking up a bug on a re-visit I don't.

 

Heck, I don't even log trades on paper. Everything's listed on line.

Some people don't - that's why I emphasized it.

 

But yes, you are correct, you should be logging every one of the visits.

Remember, people like to see their bugs travel and like to have people visit their cache.

 

Writing in the log and logging on line are for the benefit of other people so log away.

The main reason I WOULD write it on the log is so that someone else who gets there after you but before you have a chance to log it online will know it has been taken and by whom. It can help with confusion and worry that the bug has gone missing. It wouldn't be mandatory but I feel it would be a nice thing to do.

doh! I just picked up a Travel Bug today and forgot to log that in the cache but i logged it online. I shall head back there tomorrow to log in what i took.

It's fine I do it all the time. Oh I forgot IT SEEMS EVERYBODY IN COLORADO IS FORGETTING TO LOG THE TB"S THEY TAKE OUT OF A CACHE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
