Is It True?

It's true that locationless caches are migrating to the new site, which IMHO is better designed to handle them. The better news is that access will be open to everyone after a beta testing and introductory period is over. This is a "slow rollout." It started with a focus group (of which I was a member), then the owners of existing locationless caches were notified about converting over, and then yesterday all charter members received a notice e-mail. By the time that regular members see the site, lots of guinea pig work and bug-fixing will already be out of the way!

You don't have to move them.

But they will all be archived by the end of the year according to the FAQ:

Do existing locationless caches go away?

Eventually, yes. Although we do plan, with permission, to transfer the existing locationless caches to the new Waymarking site, existing locationless caches that do not transfer will be allowed to remain on the geocaching.com web site until the end of the year. Existing locationless caches that do transfer to Waymarking.com will be archived and the listings will be locked. It is up to the locationless cache owner whether to transfer their category.

what is going to happen to the find count?

like cache_test_dummies said, nothing will happen. to paint with a broad brush, the caches will be archived, not deleted, so your find count won't change. caches get archived all the time without affecting your find count so no worries.

*at this point there still seems to be some uncertainty about some caches being moved, ie virts, but locationless are definitely on the way over from what I have read. but like brian, I may have missed a sentence or two here or there!

Oh no, you don't HAVE to move them. But you WILL lose them if you don't.

I'm still royally ticked about this move. I LIKE my Dash for Cache locationless -- and lots of other people do, too!
