2oldfarts (the rockhounders)
A friend has e-mail the following pictures to me asking for help in identifying them and if there is a way to log them. I could find nothing for this mark, but would appreciate any info available to relay to her. The monument where the disk is. And the disk. Maybe one for the Logo list? Thanks for your help, John Quote Link to comment
+Harry Dolphin
The first, obviously, you log as a Locationless Cache (while they still remain on geocaching.com) Not The Benchmark. I haven't logged this one yet, myself. Quote Link to comment
2oldfarts (the rockhounders)
We knew it was not in the database when we asked for info on this mark. The type of info we were looking for is why it was set and are there more like it? Why the name "Global Positioning System Location"? Is it used to check handheld GPSrs? Any info would be nice. +seventhings
I don't think that it was set to calibrate handheld GPS units. I didn't see it in the NGS database either, but that doesn't mean that it's not on its way there. I suspect that Steve R or Casey at NGS probably know something about this. So, you could contact them (that is, if you don't fear the extreme allergic reaction you may suffer). Alternatively, you could contact the Alaska Society of Professional Land Surveyors (I suspect that they have a website). Be careful, those surveyors and NGS folks have rules.
