Explorist 210

I just bought an Explorist 210 a few days ago. The only way I've been able to upload POI's to it is through the Magellan geocache manager software. You can't delete those individually in the unit. I read in one of the other posts that you can use GSAK to send POI's to the Explorist, but it won't transfer the POI's to the 210. I saw the note in the program stating that you need to export the POI's to the Explorist, but I can't get that to work. Do you have to have one of the Explorist 4/5/600 units with the SD card for that to work?

Well when you go to export in gsak it says explorist and sd card. You might try asking Clyde at gsak if he has a work around yet you might be stuck with the geocache manager for awhile. You can edit or delete with the geocache manager, I know its a pain :D

210 has only been available for a week or two; there's not a lot of experience available with them yet. I know I've had GPSBabel users report success with the 210 and since GSAK uses GPSBabel for this, I'd be suprised if it doesn't Just Work.

If you can be more specific about "it won't transfer" perhaps we can help.

There may be a menu or doc somewhere in GSAK or GPSBabel with some misleading text, but explorist internal memory and exporist SD card are indistinguishable to the host computer once you've selected the communcation option on the receiver to pick which one you're presenting to the host. I'm guessing that 210 does exactly the same, but without presenting you the option of SD.

While I can't recall off the top of my head any 210 users who report getting GSAK to send geocache POIs over successfully, I would expect it to work the same as the 456/00.

Select File/export/Magellan explorists and SD card.

Designate "Required format" as Explorist Geocaches

Specify filename and path

Set any other fields as you prefer

Generate!

If you prefer regular POIs then you would designate Explorist POIs as the required format. Does the 210 do geocache POIs then?

With my 400 I haven't tried sending directly to the unit from GSAK. I just generate my file to a folder, connect the 400 to the pc. When I connect a windows explorer window opens and it shows the different folders, then I just drag and drop into the POI, or Geocache folder, depending on what format I generate.

I'm assuming that 210 when connected to the PC is reconized as a USB mass storage device, just like the 4/5/600's.

Thanks for the tip. The drag and drop method worked just fine. I thought the generated export file from GSAK had to be sent to the unit using GSAK. It hadn't occured to me yet to try the drag and drop method until you mentioned it. I apparently wanted to make it more difficult then it had to be.

Thanks again!

I just tried uploading directly from GSAK to my 400 worked no problem. I first connected the 400 to the PC. Then I opened GSAK, exported to explorist POI's. In the file to create dialogue box, I drilled though the drives till I found the letter windows had assigned to the 400, typed in file name hit generate, and there it was on the explorist. I'm sure the same thing would work on the 210.

That's it! I spaced the fact that you could change directories on that "File to create" line. For some reason I was thinking that you couldn't change it from going to the hard drive. I had it stuck in my head that you had to use the "send to gps" option once you created the file. That makes total sense especially since you reminded me earlier about how windows assigns the unit a drive letter.

Thanks again!
