KiteGeek
anyone know a way to clean/repair the 5 way navigator on an etrex? my venture has this issue where sometimes the button works, sometimes not. generally it will do two or three directions, but it hasnt done all of them at one time for some time. seems that if i turn the unit off and rapidly and firmly operating the buttons sometimes it improves the operation... anyway... any thoughts? peter
The repair instructions given here: http://home.triad.rr.com/ralloh/Vista%20LED%20Repair.pdf are primarily intended for fixing the display ribbon connector problem (i.e. lines on the screen), but they also give you access to the click-stick. Open it, clean with contact cleaner and it should improve its operation. As usual, use these procedures at your own risk. Quote Link to comment
Neo_Geo
If you're gonna go inside the unit, you might consider replacing the click-stick part. Information from ANOTHER THREAD: Order Digi-Key part number 401-1131-1ND (gold contacts) or part number 401-1130-1-ND (silver contacts) they're each less than $2 but I had to pay a $5 handling fee since the order was less than $25 and shipping was an additional $7 or so. Complete specs for this part can be found at the manufacturer's page here. Quote Link to comment
team monopoly 1
I have a broken etrex legend same problem with the click stick. Mine will not move left. I email garmin but got no reply , I emailed again a couple weeks later and got told to send it to quebec, I am in vancouver. I contacted the quebec place and they dont take them . So I have contacted garmin again still waiting. Quote Link to comment
KiteGeek
i ended up calling garmin, and though i was well out of warantee, they issued an RMA and took it in for repair. they sent me another one (looks brand new) and charged me not a cent. soooo, might want to try calling the 800 number, and see how far you get before you tear into the unit. team monopoly 1
So after I told garmin that quebec is a long way from vancouver , they basically said too bad. So I called the quebec shop but no one there spoke english. So for canadians the service at garmin repair sucks. I must know send my garmin across the country to a place that speakes french. this is looking to good. Quote Link to comment
