Ferreter5
I reformatted a hard drive recently and so re-downloaded EasyGPS. I noticed that it is now up to version 2.0. It now seems to present waypoints in a map mode in relative distances from each other -- pretty neat. But, I couldn't find any way to present waypoints in the old table grid fashion. Has this been removed from EasyGPS or am I just missing something obvious in the user interface or help system? [if so, what does that say about my ability to spot caches? ) Quote Link to comment
+geognerd
I'm not finding the table view either. I didn't use EasyGPS much to begin with, but it seems the program has taken a step backward. eXplorist support was added, but it seems the only way to view info on waypoints is to select one and then edit it. I'm not sure EasyGPS has much to offer an eXplorist user. Google Earth does a better job displaying the points in a GPX file, since you can see roads. GSAK/GPSBabel are better for exporting the GPX file because they support the eXplorist geocaching format (.gs). From what I've found so far, it appears EasyGPS only exports to the plain POI format (.upt). EasyGPS is free, but so are GPSBabel and GSAK (at least during the nag-free period). Quote Link to comment
topografix
EasyGPS 2.0 has a map-based interface. EasyGPS now supports file-based data transfers to the eXplorist and iFinder GPS receivers. EasyGPS is no longer limited to WGS84 - you can work in any datum or coordinate format you like. EasyGPS supports tracklog transfers in addition to waypoints and routes. EasyGPS is not designed to be a replacement for Google Earth, GSAK, and gpsbabel. It's a tool, and a free one at that. If you find it useful for managing your GPS data, use it. If not, there are plenty of other options. Download EasyGPS 2.0. Quote Link to comment
Ferreter5
I found I can drag-select more than one waypoint to edit them one after another, but I still liked the table grid better. For example, I could change the symbol for multiple waypoints all at once. Plus, I tend to process tabular data better anyway. Quote Link to comment
+caverdon
I agree -- I think the map view is good, but not as a replacement to the waypoint table view. It would be much better to have either view available. Quote Link to comment
+Firefyter00
I ran into a problem with it tonight too......I downloaded 2.0 thinking it would be an upgrade, therefore better. It may very well be better, but I can't get it to connect to my GPSr. I have a eTrex Legend C, and it was working perfectly with version 1.3.7. This new version shows support for the new Garmins and a few others as well, but it keeps saying that there's not a GPSr connected to the USB port. I've uninstalled it, re-installed it, changed my settings back and forth between the Legend C and the Map60CS, but still no luck. My unit shows up as connected in Device Manager (Win98SE), and it connected perfectly to Garmin's website when I checked to make sure I had the latest firmware installed (I did). It seems like the only thing I can't connect to is EasyGPS. I hate this, because I really, really like the software. Would anybody happen to have a copy of version 1.3.7 laying around? +cliptwings
I think the new format would be more useful with some sort of map in the background. Has anybody found a way to layer the CitySelect maps in the EasyGPS display? I tried asking the company's tech support, but failed. Quote Link to comment
+Klemmer
Thanks, guys. I'll be sure to stick with the older version. I mostly use other software, but once in a while EasyGPS is still handy. Edited January 6, 2006 by Klemmer & TeddyBearMama Quote Link to comment

Garmin doesn't let you to use their map data in any program but MapSource. Quote Link to comment
+Firefyter00
For tech support, visit http://www.easygps.com/support.asp I tried that, and got nada..... I guess you get what you pay for, and that's exactly what it's worth...tech support that's non-existent sure doesn't encourage anybody to buy the expert version, though... Quote Link to comment
topografix
I sent replies to everyone who contacted me. EasyGPS 2.0 introduced a new "GPS plot" view that showed your data over a white background. Lots of you asked for the waypoint list back. Today, Jan 11, I released EasyGPS 2.0.1, which has a split screen. The waypoint list is on the left. The plot of your GPS data is on the right. I hope you find this to be "the best of both worlds". The help file still refers to the GPS plot view only. The Web site still has screenshots from EasyGPS 1.3.7. I'll be updating all of this soon, but I wanted to get 2.0.1 released so you could get back to caching. Download the latest version of EasyGPS (2.0.1, Jan 11, 2006) Quote Link to comment
Ferreter5
topografix, Thank you very much for being so responsive! By the way, I actually do like seeing the waypoints plotted in relation to each other. That's pretty neato. But, having the table grid back too is great! Quote Link to comment
