+walkergeoff and wife
Can anyone help? I have a GPS12 with a few scratches on the screen (it is at least 8 years old, and has done good service). The scratches are quite small, but do impede visibility of the screen at certain viewing angles, and I would like to remove them if I could. Any ideas? Quote Link to comment
markandlynn
Ive been know to use a carnuba wax polish for tiny scratches the wax fills them in and has the same refractive index (well close enough) to make them almost invisible. Clean the screen thoroughly with detegent and a lint free cloth and then gently polish the wax in. What you cant find carnuba wax ? take some very shiny apples and gently scrape the skin with the edge of a sharpknife see that white stuff ? its carnuba wax. Quote Link to comment
+HazelS
now don't quote me on this, but if we get scratches on cd's we use a little bit of car polish (one with a tiny bit of cut in it) and it's usually enough to cut out the scratch. My ex had a lovely new IPAQ with a scratch on and he used this method, it worked a treat! Quote Link to comment
+Pengy&Tigger
At school we used to polish plastic with Brasso and cotton wool. Use it to get scratches out of plastic before with it, that should do the trick. Pengy Quote Link to comment

+Alibags
My technique for cleaning CDs, such as those scratched to bits ones you get from the library is as follows : 1) polish gently with a mild abrasive... I use toothpaste. I have also used the liquid (ie do not shake the tin) off Brasso. Be gentle 2) clean off abrasive with soft damp cloth (or run under tap!) 3) polish gently with a nice wax based furniture polish. The wax fills in some of the tiny scratches. if in doubt, practice on something less precious first, such as a scratched up CD. Quote Link to comment

Be gentle You are braver than I. One piece of advice I can offer relating to CDs is never clean them in a circular motion around the disk. This is because a CD can cope with part of a track being damaged, but if it is scratched along a length of the track it will glitch, and thin damage is significantly more likely to occur when cleaning along the path of the disk. Learnt from late night BBC2, for reference. As fro GPS screens, I cant help, sorry. Quote Link to comment
