Geocaching For Those Who Can't Get Out Of Their House?

I was thinking....Has anyone ever thought of making a some type of video game for people who want to

play the game but can't get out of the house, to run around town or hike through the woods? I mean with tech. these days it seems it could be made. They have Deer hunter. LOL Just wondering, I know that my mom really loves caching but due to some problems with her legs she cant' do all the walking and getting in and out of the car. And sure wouldn't be very stealthy limping along. LOL And for example Myself, I am a cancer survivor thus far, however they have already told me it is basically chronic. They will never tell me I am in remission. I will periodically have to do chemo. The first time I had to go through chemo for 6 months it put my caching completely on hold. Can't be out in the weather (due to catching colds) Can't be around poison oak, (allergic and immune system won't fight it) I know that I would pay pretty good money for a caching video game. And it certainly wouldn't make people quit caching in the "real world" that is way too much more fun. I am not no computer whiz so don't ask me HOW you would make it, just throwing the idea out there for someone else to do that stuff. :P What about making it interactive, like you could pay to use it online, Kinda like the sims....you can hide, find, meet others. What do you think?? Ortisprincess

While there is some overlap in the lists, I found some people had put together lists of caches-from-home bookmarks:

A home-video game does sound interesting. Maybe it would be allowed as a whole sub-topic of Waymarking: log locations found on a video - or perhaps famous locations by movies (or is there one already?)

But I thought the idea WAS to get us out of the house and into the world (GEO-caching). :P At least that's what it did for me.

Kidding aside - I don't know how long I'd be involved in a game that simulates walking in the world and enjoying nature. But my disinterest doesn't necessarily preclude the demand for it. It's kind of like the Dilbert cartoon where he bemoans Dogbert for playing a tiny video game of golf:

Wait - you're playing a video game about a sport that has liesurely walks and gets you outside? That seems barely to be a sport and it's now a video game? What are you doing on there right now?

I've thought about it, and have joked about it in other threads in the past. Deer Hunting and Fishing games are quite popular, so I say why not.

There are people who prefer to enjoy Geocaching via the computer screen (armchair logging, virtual TBs and coins) so if the software is written correctly, I can see this being a good money maker.

If you like the idea of leisurly walking around in a virtual world, I'd check out the Myst series of games. It isn't geocaching, but it is an incredible experience where you can go in just about any direction with the goal of solving puzzles in order to find clues and hidden objects. It's got aspects of many different types of caching (multi's, puzzles, traditionals, virtuals) some can be easy to find and/or solve, while others can take a significant amount of time and brain power.

I highly recommend it as being very close to computer caching.

There are 5 games in the series:

Myst

Myst II: Riven

Myst III: Exile

Myst IV: Revalation

Myst V: End of Ages

I haven't clicked on the above link yet to see what it's like or if there is an English button, but I swear by altavista dot com! Cut and paste...maybe that will help!

The first evening after I bought my GPSr, I was too excited to read the directions and learn how to work it. I was too determined to figure it out for myself. My sister-in-law (who is by NO MEANS a rocket scientist) picked it up and started using it with no problem. Apparently her Nancy Drew computer games has a "gpsr" on the monitor for helping solve crimes? I haven't seen it so I can't verify it.
