Jingacacher
When I try to have Google Earth access the Geocaching information I get an error message that says: "Fetch of Network Link 'Geocaching Network KML' failed.... Parse Error: File has missing or bad root element at line 1" Does anyone else have this problem and if so, is there a fix? Link to comment
+teambeener
I got the same thing. Anyone know what's wrong? I'm trying to use the new Google Earth 4 beta version. If I can't figure anything else out, I'll try to back up to the last version of Google Earth. UPDATE: Uninstalled beta version and tried w/ last stable - still no luck...HELP! +Geo-Bishop
Yeah, I've got the same problem. It's driving me nuts. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling GE, I've deleted and redownloaded the KML, but still no luck. Geo-Bishop. Link to comment
+Raine
I'm using the beta as well and its working fine for me. Have you tried redownloading then KML networking link from http://www.geocaching.com/my/default.aspx ? -Raine Link to comment
+gnbrotz
I too am using the new beta (4.0.1565), and while the network feed is working, all caches are showing up as the default 'pushpin' icon, rather than the geocaching identifiers. Is there something I can tweak to fix this? Link to comment
+Raine
That's a bug that Google Earth introduced.. I'm waiting for the final release to see if this is fixed or not Link to comment
+teambeener
Yeah, I've downloaded it 100 times. Always w/ the same results. Does it use a strange port for the fetch? I am behind a firewall, so that might be causing it. Link to comment
+ByrnedFish
i also get the pushpin instead of the cache type. any further word? Link to comment
Jeremy
It's a Google bug so we can't do a whole lot about it. Link to comment
+Miragee
I just got a Google Error when I opened a cache page. I think it was a JavaScript popup. It said something about maps being registered to a different site . . . or something like that. That is the first time I've seen that . . . Link to comment
Jeremy
You are confusing Google Maps with Google Earth. If the URL isn't exactly right, Google Maps won't like the page. There's an issue with double slashes somewhere to still be found. Link to comment

When I'm running the geocache KML, if I select a cache from the main map window and click "View Cache Details" everything is fine. If I select a cache from the "Places" window on the left side of the screen and select "View Cache Details" from there, I get a URL of the form http://www.geocaching.com//seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=xxx, with a double-slash between .com and seek. This has happened for me using GE 3 and 4, and on at least two different computers. dave Link to comment
+teambeener
Well Dang! I finally got some replies and my topic got hijacked! I actually am talking bout the kml that you download from GC itself - the one that normally shows you all the caches in the area that you are viewing inside GE. Any ideas why I would get the error I mention above? Link to comment
