Mapsource City Navigator versus MetroGuide

Why would one choose MetroGuide over City Navigator?

You wouldn't choose it unless you have a basic Garmin receiver that does not do autorouting...Such as the old model Legend. It will do maps, but not autorouting with those maps.

The City Navigator supports autorouting. If you have an autorouting GPS, then City Navigator is the choice between the two.

MetroGuide can be used on all handheld Garmin models; it just won't auto-route on the models that support that outstanding feature.

I can think of two reasons to choose MetroGuide over CityNavigator/CitySelect: MG costs about $85 vs $115, and MG does not require unlock codes - meaning you can install MG on as many Garmins as you'd like. CN/CS can only be installed on two units; for a modest cost, you can install it on additional units.

One note about MG and auto-routing, MG will support auto-routing if you use a laptop with the GPS plugged in to pick up the sats.

MetroGuide Europe and MetroGuide NA does autoroute with some 'manipulation'!!

I have had it operational on Garmin 60C and Garmin 60CSx.

There have been many threads on the internet regarding this facility.

MetroGuide Europe v8 costs £40 in the UK on eBay, while CityNavigator can cost £200+ for unlock codes for two units.

However, ideally the CityNavigator is the best!
