I need a new GPS

Recommended Posts

Welcome to the forum. You question is sort of like saying "I need a new car." Give us some more info. How much do you want to spend? What will you be using the GPSr for? Hiking? Driving? Urban Caching? Mountain Biking? What maps are you likely to want.

Lots of helpful folks here, but its tough to answer a question so open-ended.

Check out the Garmin Venture Cx. You should be able to find one of those for $180. With the additional City Navigator maps, you can use it for navigation in your car. The maps and autonavigation kit can be found bundled together for less than $150.

If you want to spend more money on the GPSr, check out the Garmin GPSMap 60Cx, CSx, or the 76CSx.

I need my GPS for Geocaching and perhaps for my car but principally for Geocaching

I would suggest Garmin's top of the line handheld, the 60CSx (or if you're not camping/hiking/hunting, the 60Cx is the same model without the barometric altimeter and compass). I just bought one for 343.80 from PCNation.com (free FAST shipping), and it is awesome. I acquires the satellites much faster than my old unit, is much more precise, and I can even get reception indoors if I'm anywhere near a window (although who would hide a geocache indoors, eh?).

For car use (and even helpful for geocaching), I would also suggest the Auto Navigation Kit that goes with this model, it comes with a couple of different kinds of car mounts, a cigarette lighter power adapter (although I don't use it, I've found that the cigarette adapter for my Motorola phone works just as well and plugs into the USB port on the GPSr unit), and the latest road map software. It's 139.50 at PCNation.com.

" Not only does my 60CSx get reception indoors, it will usually get me an accuracy of 20' or so in my basement not near any windows. Simply amazing
