+ZoomLens
Custom Charges? The likelyhood of them being stopped is extremely slim, and the excise duty and vat chargeable on those things would be pence only! You'll easily save that amount by getting them from the states. I wouldn't worry if I were you. Quote Link to comment

In my capacity as a Custom broker: HM Revenue and Customs (as they are now known) will not collect revenue less than GBP 10.00. Excise duty is not applicable (this is for products containing alcohol)As ZoomLens says... For something like this the duty/VAT would not be an issue. Jon Quote Link to comment
+The Lavender Hill Mob
I've bought lots of things from US web sites, some things costing over £20 and not had a problem. The only time I did was when I bought some merchandise from my company's web site, 2 denim shirts with company logo's and an insulated mug again with logo and I was charged the Earth in VAT and duty. It would have been cheaper to fly there and buy them. I use www.ukgeocachers.co.uk, the prices aren't bad, service is good and the delivery is quick. THLM Quote Link to comment
+minstrelcat
If you mean the capsules that are meant to go on a pet's collar, I found them for sale in my local pound shop. Lisa Quote Link to comment
+The Craig Clan
I'm actually looking for containers myself, here's my finding so far.... I"VE ADDED THE NEW LINKS POSTED BELOW TO THIS POST - THANKS GUYS I was in Makro last night and got 2x 5 pack of locking Addis boxes for £5.99 ex vat. It's a larger than usual box with 4 other medium to small boxes packed inside and includes a promotional 25% off at the moment. Not a bad price as they are at least £1.50 each just for the small sizes at Tesco I also wanted more unusual containers: Looking over ebay I've found these pill holders from the UK in various colours (no silver though ATM) http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...p;rd=1&rd=1 Incase this ebay list stops working here's the seller: http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Montana-Inc-Uk These from the US very cheap (silver only) - £11.75 for 10 (shipped) http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...p;rd=1&rd=1 Incase this ebay list stops working here's the seller: http://search.ebay.co.uk/_W0QQsassZanigel1QQhtZ-1 EDIT: I was looking for a cheap UK supply of these: http://www.floridageocaching.com/mrmagneto.htm But found a little US caching company: http://www.aetoys.com/geocaching_gear.htm That also sells the silver pill holders. They sell through ebay.com but I contacted them directly. Their reply stated I could go ahead and order and they'll send me an invoice for further international postage. Waiting for reply now, hopefully it will still be well under £18 for 10 magnetic micros and 10 pill holders. Check out this site: http://cacheopedia.com/wiki/Cache_Containers The waterproof match holders are really great. Here's a UK site selling them at £1.99 each (£3.00 postage to send 10 of them) http://www.trojangroupuk.com/store/product...p;sub_catFlag=1 I've found a US site for the match holders where you could get 40 of them for £53 shipped, but it would incur customs for sure - www.specialforces.com Here's a great price on decon boxes THANKS SCANKER http://www.strikeforcesupplies.co.uk/stock...&item=20044 Read the comments below though as they may not be totally watertight And then as a really cheap (slightly crap) solution theres the multicoloured beach safe: http://www.orientaltrading.com/application...earch%26meta%3D http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/12-NIP-BEACH-SAFE-CO...bayphotohosting from http://stores.ebay.co.uk/ROBINSNESTCHILDCARE Or god forbid: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/24-Dolphin-BEACH-SAF...VQQcmdZViewItem from http://stores.ebay.co.uk/deeznovelties And a slightly larger safe: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Beach-Camping-Boatin...VQQcmdZViewItem from http://search.ebay.co.uk/_W0QQsassZchegeo15bfQQhtZ-1 Now, if you want ammo cases and don't want the weird, sticky feeling of going into your surplus shop (joke) theres: http://www.surplusandoutdoors.com/ishop/877/shopscr522.html http://www.springfields.co.uk/product_info...d30f3c2c856ff29 http://www.surplusandadventure.com/shopscr1184.html Or my fave: http://www.anchorsupplies.com/h83.htm They have the smaller H82 box (255mmx95mmx185mm) for £4.75 too. Someone's metioned elsewhere using ammo bags to disguise certain cache containers such as the snap close plastic boxes. Here are some in various camo colours: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...p;rd=1&rd=1 from this seller: http://stores.ebay.co.uk/army-hats They look good I suppose. What are they like in the wild, do the turning catches rust or break after prolonged exposure, do they rot, or get taken away by rodents as housing material? Maybe camo duct tape from http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Tonys-Camo would do better. Here's another unusual one (Don't mention the war!) http://www.omahas.com/catalog/product_info...;products_id=48 You could wear it on your head for a laff. Looks weird but it's a talking point, and should be paintable. Another type of container I found recently as a cache was a PET bottle preform. It was a bit damp inside but it was submerged in mud and water when I found it. http://www.constar.net/markets_preforms.asp Constar is a few miles from me! So I'll make enquiries and if they are a few pence each, I'll leave them in my finds as gifts for other cachers to take away. Madyokel who placed the cache has confirmed that it was indeed a scrap from a bottle preform factory. Recycling... Nice! That's all I've got so far, please add to this post and if you find better prices please let us know. All the best, Mr S Baldrick (199 finds ATM, deciding what to do for my 200th) Edited July 25, 2007 by Mr S Baldrick Quote Link to comment
Lactodorum
And then for a slightly larger box type container the decon kit box is very good: http://www.surplusandoutdoors.com/ishop/877/shopscr2213.html (£4.50!) Excellent list, many thanks for compiling and publishing it A word of caution with these decon boxes, I bought a couple from my local "survival" shop and made a cache out of one of them (well actually my "friend" did, but you know what I mean ) and within a week I'd had reports of it being very damp inside. I checked it and it certainly was wet even though the lid seal seemed intact. I've since replaced it with the usual small plastic box. Quote Link to comment
+scanker
http://www.strikeforcesupplies.co.uk/stock...&item=20044 This site has the decontamination containers relatively cheap, but as Lactodorum says, each one I've found out in the field has been damp. Quote Link to comment
+dino-irl
Decon boxes are great but the seal on them is very tight and requires a strong grip to seal them properly. You need to hear them click. I have a feeling not a lot of people take the time to close them properly. I have 3 out as caches and only one has had a complaint of dampness which was rectified the following day (by another kindly cacher) and hasn't had a problem since. Quote Link to comment
+Big Rab
mostly usa based, I dont want to pay custom charges I've ordered those pill holders a couple of times from an American ebay seller and never been charged customs. If you are after a dozen I may be able to help you out, need to check though. Cheers Big Rab Edited July 25, 2007 by Big Rab Quote Link to comment
+Globetrotter.uk
A BIG THANKS TO YOU ALL, I HAVE BEEN OFFERED SOME AT A EXCELLENT PRICE. Quote Link to comment
+SidAndBob
Great post Mr S Baldrick. Does anyone know where to get flare canisters (metal, screw top, waterproof, funnel shaped). When I've been up to the Army Surplus store in Kidderminster I've found then to be popular cache containers in the area, but the store knew nothing about them surprisingly. Quote Link to comment
NickPick
I recently bought a pill holder (to hold pills actually) for £3 with free postage from a uk ebay seller. Looked identical to the ones from usa sellers. It's got a rubber ring seal so should be waterproof. I'm not sure about the material - whether it's stainless steel or coated brass or what, so corosion may or may not be a problem. Quote Link to comment
+Seraphi
Thanks for the list! Edited July 29, 2007 by Seraphi Quote Link to comment
+The Craig Clan
I just wanted to add that the pill holders and magnetic nanos that I ordered from aetoys.com eventually came through (postal strike slowed them down a little). I got 10 of each for $32.90 with shipping, so a very good deal I reckon. They all came with logs inside ready for caching too! Quote Link to comment
