Thank You to Cracker Barrel

When someone gives a gift, the only proper response is to accept the gift graciously and say "thank you."

What one does with it after that is one's own business. If one did not really want it one can dispose of it out of sight of the giver. One could also "regift" it. Or one could enjoy if for whatever was enjoyable about the gift and when the gift's enjoyability has ended, dispose of it then. What one does with the gift is the prerogative of the gifted.

So also is the giving of a gift the prerogative of the giver. Giving a gift does not in any way proffer a "right" to be given gifts in the future. Nor does it constitute an agreement to renew the gift for all time.

Cracker Barrel made no request whatsoever that any cacher would do business with them because of their allowing caches on their property. They allowed caches to be placed on their property as a gift.

That CB no longer desires to give us that gift does not in any way justify any response from us other than to tell them "thank you" for their past gifts and perhaps a polite request if there is anything we have done wrong that has prompted their change in policy.

We should be ashamed to even consider taking our business away from them because of their change in policy. It is simply rude to do so.

If we want to do something good for the cause of geocaching, we should communicate with them as much as practical saying simply, "Thank You for supporting geocaching."

IMO, they are far more likely to change their mind if we thank them and continue to do business with them than they are if we complain and boycott.

To CB I say, TFTC
