+Timpat
I just used the Web Updater and I didn't see GPS Chipset Type G Ver. v.3.00, only the previous v.2.90 which I've got. Quote Link to comment

+Timpat
Thanks Hogrod, you gave me confidence to try again. I updated my WebUpdater software to version 2.4.1 first as I had an older version. Once I ran WebUpdater again it did in fact work. GPS SW v.3.00 is loaded! Quote Link to comment
QuigleyJones
Works for my csx but not my cx. Quote Link to comment
+Timpat
Works for my csx but not my cx. Mine worked with my 60Cx after updating to v.2.4.1 of the WebUpdater if this helps. Oh, and thanks NewZealand for the notice in the first place! Quote Link to comment
gratefulHIKE
so......what does this update entail? Quote Link to comment
xxgg
How do I check which version I have? (60CSx) Never mind, I found out. I did ran Webupdate but there wasn't anything to be updated. My Software Version is 3.50 GPS SW Version 2.90 Edited December 1, 2007 by xxgg Quote Link to comment
Team Sidewinder
I had to go one step farther XXQQ on the updater page even after it said my gps had no new updates available before I got the version 3.0 Edited December 1, 2007 by Team Sidewinder Quote Link to comment
+whitecrow
I had to go one step farther XXQQ on the updater page even after it said my gps had no new updates available before I got the version 3.0 Right, after the 1st check, it should ask if you want to check for other software updates (or something like that). Barrikady
Hi, just discovered that SIRF software 3.0 is available via web-updater (but still not in the Garmin manual download area). Anybody here who knows what the enhancements are ? Thx, NZ Thanks for the heads-up. I updated my 60Cx to sirf software version 3.0 using Garmin's Macintosh WebUpdater 2.0.1. The sirf software was listed under "Additional Updates" as "GPS Chipset Type G." The update was fast and uneventful. Quote Link to comment
eaparks
Does anyone know what this 3.0 update is for or improves? Thanks. Quote Link to comment
+Red CBX
It also loads to the Zumo 550, but there is no "change history" yet. Quote Link to comment
NewZealand
Meanwhile I discovered at least one enhancement: Here in Austria Egnos works now for the first time without a problem. The CSX finds Egnos satellites and displays the other satellite bars with a "D". This was never possible with version 2.90. However, because it doesn't buy me anything, I just tried it out and saw it works, but turned it off again. Just wanted to inform you. Maybe there are also other enhancements, but there are still no release notes available. Cheers, NZ Quote Link to comment
gpscoqn
I just updated my 60csx via the web updater and the 3.00 Chipset came up right away as an option to update the unit with. Does anyone know what this update does??? or fixes??? Quote Link to comment
+david.travis
I recall there is a way to find out what software and chipset version my 60CSx is using, but I cannot remember how. Any help will be appreciated Quote Link to comment

+DENelson83
Just heard about this update a few moments ago, and installed it without any major problems on my 76CSx, although when the install was finished, the unit's clock was reset to 00:00 UTC April 1, 2007! I had to put the unit back into AutoLocate mode to get a fix on the satellites again and thus reset its clock back to the correct time. Quote Link to comment
+GOT GPS?
Updated my 60CSx, and it went goofy with a time of 8pm, when it is now 9:20am approx. I Turned it off, then back on, now it is fixed. Quote Link to comment
GeoBobC
Does anyone have a theory why this update is only available via the webupdater? The update pages for the units (60Cx and 60CSx) still show 2.90. Quote Link to comment

The update pages for the units (60Cx and 60CSx) still show 2.90. Garmin always releases updates via the webupdater well before they are available on their website, though I'm not sure why. It's been this way since I can remember, thats why every few weeks when I have my GPSr hooked to my pc I check for updates with the webupdater. Quote Link to comment
+allory
As an interesting side bar to this thread, after updating my nuvi 660, I plugged in the Astro that I'm working with and it updated to v. 2.10. It does say that its using a SiRF chip when it starts up, but the update was listed as being for chip Type G2 v. 2.10. Quote Link to comment
+DENelson83
Updated my 60CSx, and it went goofy with a time of 8pm, when it is now 9:20am approx. I Turned it off, then back on, now it is fixed. Yep, your receiver reset its clock to 00:00 UTC April 1, 2007 as well. Quote Link to comment
+EraSeek
Perhaps you've noticed in the past that the update does not take effect (and does not show the new update number) until you reboot the unit. I suppose something like that is going on here with the time/date. Quote Link to comment
+Dryphter
Date/Time resets, but is then corrected after rebooting and possibly connecting to the satellites. Worked on mine no problems. Quote Link to comment

+myotis
Has anyone heard what the changes are yet? Not sure if it was just a coincidence, but after upgrading, I took a 5.12 mile hike and when I was done, I had 952 feet elevation gain and 952 elevation loss. I cannot recall it ever being the same before. Quote Link to comment
tlhutch
This was posted on another board. "Thank you for contacting Garmin International, The change log details between Chipset type G ver 2.90 and ver 3.00 are as follows, Changes made from version 2.90 to 3.00: Changes to support manufacturing." Based upon this message, it appears that the update does nothing for the consumer/user. Quote Link to comment

TrailRiderXRL
Darn, I was hoping for an Ipod interface. Just Kidding as I don't have an Ipod. I remember reading a post that someone figured the 60CX and 60CSX shared identical hardware and just slightly different software. This is seen in other products such as cell phones and such. Could it be that the 60CX has the built in Baro/Alt but just hidden with different software? Quote Link to comment

I guess the best way to tell though would be to take apart two units and compare the guts of each. Quote Link to comment

+EraSeek
I was trying to hold off doing the upgrade till they posted what the fixes were, but I just couldn't wait. So I tried it. Went through the first part, no software update, went to second part "other", it showed no history change but a box to click for chipset G (or some such) with no number. If I had checked that and went on I probably would have gotten the update. I decided to hold off. My theory is that they don't post the updates on the Garmin site till they find out if the early adapters hd any glitches. My advise for a clean update (from past experience) is two-fold; Pull your card first so it doesn't try to write to the card and fry it, and second, keep an active browser up while doing the update (I had some issue with signing drivers a time or two during an update and doing this seemed to be the cure). Rumor has it that this fixes the discrepancy between the odometer and the track log mileage, and elevation gain and loss. Only a rumor! so far. Quote Link to comment
+hamelenser
I've updated mine today from previous 2.9. Here in centralEurope with WAAS/EGNOS switched on I can definately see small 'D' markings in the signal strength bars which weren't there before. Quote Link to comment

Suscrofa
With 3.00 I confirm that I get better behavior with EGNOS sat 33, 37, 39 too. Note that I don't see an improvement in position Lat/Lon accuracy but for the altitude ! It is obvious when we toggle WAAS On and Off Quote Link to comment
