+Peconic Bay Sailors
This was mentioned on another thread by another poster (I can't find it right now)... You can create a custom route with Garmin's Mapquest... Just click, click, click the route... save it as a .gpx file... and upload to GC.com... then create your route pocket query... Very Kool... and a lot easier than using Google Earth... for a custom route that does not follow the Google Earth Directions Route... It provides a way to plan a route off the major highways and most direct route to your destination... Edited February 5, 2008 by Peconic Bay Sailors Quote Link to comment
+sbell111
I think that this is the very best way to create a route. OK, the second best. The best way is to find one that someone's already created. Quote Link to comment
Mushtang
It might have been this post where a handsome young man suggested Garmin users could read the specific instructions on Markwell's FAQ. It's MUCH easier than dealing with Google Earth! Quote Link to comment
+Peconic Bay Sailors
I agree... many times when we go from NJ to upstate NY... we like to get off the NYS Thruway and take back roads for a portion of the trip to get caches... Get off at one exit... get back on at the next entrance... Using Google Earth, it is extremely cumbersome to accomplish... But, since you can do a "save as" with a .gpx file extension with Mapsource... It's a couple of minutes at most to create a custom route... I doubt I'll ever use Google earth again for this effort... That's where I read it... can't believe I have been screwing around with GE for so long and never realized I could do it so easily with Mapsource... This is a really BIG time saver!
