+TippySheep
Okay, I want to create a geocoin -- a collectible and a trackable version of BASICALLY the same coin. BUT, I'm a bit stuck as to design. I "think" I've got the manufacturer all picked out; I did a TON of research over the past two weeks. But this was why I did my last post about what make a coin highly collectible. I want to use the coins as a excitement generating tool for a project I'm working on. Anyway, I'd love comments about what you all think. And, I'm also looking for some mentoring, probably via PM or email, about how to pitch the coins as part of my project. Thanks! Link to comment
+Droo
I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "a collectible and trackable version of BASICALLY the same coin". Are you talking about 2 coins? Copying an existing coin? I guess I'm spinning this one too much. Link to comment

+Eclectic Penguin
It would help to be specific - you're asking for our opinions but you've told us virutually nothing about your ideas. Try talking to your chosen manufacturer - in my coin design process I found them to be extremely helpful throughought the design/manufacturing process. Link to comment
+Insane Kangaroo
1) OP should be banned from the forums and from geocaching.com for commercial geocache spam 2) Thanks for all of the round pieces of plastic which I can use for my tactical training, they're FANTASTIC target pieces! Link to comment

Perhaps you should try keeping civil when others do likewise. There was nothing commercial about this topic. Link to comment

GregsonVaux
To me it makes sense to make a collectible version and a traveling version. In fact, I plan on doing exactly that. I have minted one coin and I am in the process of minting two others. All of them are 2 inches, and have premium finishes, which makes them on the expensive side. I was thinking of making a 1.5 inch version of each one with a simpler design and economical finishes, so that they would be cheap enough to put in caches. It is an interesting question of what makes a coin collectible. I could write a long time about that. Do you mean collectible or immediately popular? I think that they are often different things. If you want to sell many copies of a coin, you will want to put a cute kitten or a puppy on it. Cute animals almost always sell well. However, high initial sales probably do not translate into interest over time. That involves things such as "buzz" or creating a bandwagon for people to hop onto. People who know more about fashion, art, and advertising could say more about how to create buzz for a coin. Let's start a list of what kinds of coins have sold well. Here are mi initial thoughts and I hope people will add to them. Cute animals Complex designs High quality art multiple layers under transparent enamel Sexy women (think good karma/bad karma) Link to comment

+fuzziebear3
You all realize that this is an old thread that got drudged up for some reason? The OP is not around; there was no reason to comment on it anyway; and now it is going onto a completely different topic. Link to comment

+Eartha
Thanks Fuzzie, I was about to point out the 2009 date on the OP's post. This company had permission for the geocoin and tracking, but not to use caches for their promotion. Some people will move them, some won't. To each his own. Because it's old, going off topic, and the OP never came back, I'll close it now. Link to comment
