currpted geocaching.com profile/deleting found caches?

Bratwurst

Recommended Posts

I started this account a few years ago, found a few caches, moved overseas and would like to start geocaching again. Oddly enough, my found caches have swtiched to caches I've never been to, while my logs are still correct. Is there any way I can delete the caches I haven't found, and then add the ones I have? Is this a common problem due to some software changes in the past few years?

Thanks.

you could always just create a new account and log the caches you previously found with a short comment explaining that you are logging because of an account change.

If the four that show up on his profile are really all that he's found, then that would indeed be the simplest option.

On the other hand... would YOU want to give up a great caching name like "Bratwurst"? Names as lovely as that are just not available anymore. He'd probably have to be "Bratwurst99999" or even, "Keilbasa" now.

And there lies the problem.

I'd rather just delete the inaccurate found caches if I can. In some cases, I "found" the caches a year before they were placed.

Just visit each log, click view log, then click delete log.

You can then go to the correct cache and re-log it -- the site accepts dates in the past for logs.

Even worse that that, giving up the joining date of 15-December 01!! That carries a lot of kudos even with only a few finds

It seems like there's a guy with the name "bratwurst" with no capital B, who registered after me and it's listing his found caches under my profile. My logs are all correct, but the found caches listed in my profile are incorrect, and those are the ones I can't seem to remove.

Here's his profile:

and here's mine:

Wow! I didn't think the names here were case-sensitive? Sounds to me as though you may have found an actual bug!

I see the same caches in both accounts -both have 4 finds, same find dates -except one shows one cache as a multi -but it has the same name as the 4th trad in the other account?

Sure you didn't register a second time?

The caches are indeed the same for both profiles, but under my profile, the logs are correct for 4 caches I found and logged in California, while the caches are wrong and list 4 caches in Europe. What's really odd is that the person with the name "bratwurst" wrote some logs for caches in Europe, I certainly didn't write those, I remember the ones I wrote for the caches in California. It's almost like the two accounts got fused or something.

For example, these are listed under my geocaching logs, which are the correct caches I found and logged, but they don't correspond to the caches under my profile at all.

Found it 11/14/2004 Hahn Cache California [visit log]

Found it 12/28/2001 Mt. Chapel California [visit log]

Found it 12/24/2001 Coldwater Cache California [visit log]

Found it 12/15/2001 Henry's Trail California [visit log]

The problem is simply that the 'second bratwurst' has been allowed to register essentialy the same username. At that time the usernames apparently have been CaSe SeNsItIvE. (Now you simply can't register the user name 'LQ', because 'lq' is already taken by me.)

All these links returns my finds:

http://www.geocaching.com/seek/nearest.aspx?ul=lq
http://www.geocaching.com/seek/nearest.aspx?ul=lQ
http://www.geocaching.com/seek/nearest.aspx?ul=Lq
http://www.geocaching.com/seek/nearest.aspx?ul=LQ

...and I guess, that would be the case even if someone had managed to get any of the other comnbinations registered. (Fortunately you can always see your own logs thru http://www.geocaching.com/my/logs.aspx?s=1 when logged in.

It's even possible that the 'second bratwurst' isn't even capable to log in before the username is changed to something else, that isn't in conflict with any other username.

But yes, emailing contact@... is probably the best way to go.

Note that occasionally, a username turns out to be unsuitable for a variety of reasons. Should this happen, we will ask you to choose a new username; we also reserve the right to change usernames ourselves when necessary.
