Difference between the GPS 60CSx and GPSMAP 60CSx

I agree with the above posters.

If you're into Garmin trivia, there actually is a "GPS 60" and a "GPSMap 60". I've never seen either of them in the wild and I can't recall ever hearing a GPSBabel user with one. (Perhaps that means it Just Works...)

The GPS 60 is the same form factor as the GPSMap brothers, but with a black and white screen, no mapping, etc.

The "GPSMap 60" is more like the 60C (not "x") but forgoes the color screen for a grey scale: https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=224#gpsmap60

Their nomenclature is just plain confusing. Amazon lists a "GPS 60, but has a picture of a GPSMap 60c and then in their description lists "voice turn-by-turn directions" which, of course, _none_ of this family has.

In this group, variations of these product names - even when they're wrong - can be assumed to refer to the color products; those with a "C" in the name.

While we often use "60CSx", as a shorthand for "GPSMap 60CSx" I would assume that "GPS 60CSx" is merely a mutilated form of that . I don't think even Garmin would build a product so random as to have the sensors (the "S" in "60CSx" and expandable memory (the "x") that didn't do maps. After all, what would the memory be for?

So there are at least six distinctly different "Garmin (mumble) 60 (mumble)" models and at least two of them have been shipped with one of two _different_ GPS receiver chips inside.

I wanted a good backup for my 60Cx, and really wanted a gps60(yellow) since the button layout was much better than an etrex(yellow)the same as my main unit. The thing that always stopped me from buying one was it is still using an old crappy chipset.

I always wondered if garmin would put a new better chipset in the gps60 or the GPSmap60 after they came out with the 60csx/60cx as replacements for the 60cs/60c. I figured they wouldn't & would just discontinue these models but then a few years back they replaced all the etrex models with newer high sensitivity chipsets.

Now I see they have even more "upgraded" old models. Including upgraded versions of the old black & white screen legend & Vista(called the LegendH/VistaH they get a newer chipset, USB connections, and the legend gets more map storage; 24mb vs its original 8mb).

Now I am seeing yet another old model being upgraded, a GPS 72H model. Guess I could keep my fingers crossed that maybe someday I will be able to get a yellow gps60H(or whatever garmin decides to call it).
