+HookwayFamily
Has anyone got these to work properly on a legend, ive tried following all sorts of instructions and managed to upload maps but and the big but is all the details missing. I have TOPO maps at the moment which has roads on it and the OSM equivalent doesn't seem to show hardly any even though it did on the computer screen. So what Im really after is a can it be done?...the nice detailed maps on my computer, can they be put on my legend, if so how!! TIA Quote Link to comment

If the OSM then they should work fine on a Legend Hcx, I used them for about a year before upgrading to an Oregon. If you are using the talky toaster maps then just unzip the map, rename the file to GMAPSUPP.IMG and copy to the memory card. The level of detail shown depends on the zoom settings. Yup OSM and no matter what zoom level there is no detail whatsoever, even A roads are missing? Quote Link to comment
+drdick&vick
OS maps NO way OSM maps Yes as they work ok on my Legend. Quote Link to comment
+HookwayFamily
OS maps NO way OSM maps Yes as they work ok on my Legend. Found toastys maps and yup that works a treat and the detail is there. Although I got the routable ones is it possible to use this as a turn by turn satnav. Instructions say yes but all i get on the 'highway' page is yellow with a purple line marking a birds eye route so to speak.. I guess what I would like is the ability to use it to get me near to caches via road directions and then onto foot to find them. Edited March 20, 2010 by HookwayFamily Quote Link to comment

Think Ive sorted it, my nipper put it on foot rather than prompting, so road navigation appears to work now to!! Quote Link to comment
+Happy Humphrey
As an aside, OS Maps (as opposed to OSM) can also be displayed on a Legend using MOAGU. I've never managed it myself though, and would like to hear of someone who's achieved it... Edited March 20, 2010 by Happy Humphrey Quote Link to comment
+Unobtainium
I managed to do it easily by following the instructions. The software took ages to compile a relatively small area and the refresh rate on the legend HCx wasn't great. I went back to OSM. I've now got an Oregon 550 and use Custom maps. 1:25,000 is just great! Quote Link to comment
+Happy Humphrey
the refresh rate on the legend HCx wasn't great. I went back to OSM. Interesting. Was it not fast enough for walking pace? I'll have to try again now that there are instructions. Quote Link to comment
+Unobtainium
It kept up with walking pace OK, but when you moved off one tile to the next it can take up to a minute to redraw. I also like to pan around the map to get a bigger picture of features around me, this would also trigger a redraw regularly. Quote Link to comment
+Happy Humphrey
Thanks. I tried again and this time succeeded; I used Map Rectifier to create the GeoTiff, then used the Moagu GeoTiff Examine utility to set up the Worldfile. I haven't used it yet for caching, but I think that it should work to some extent. It's certainly interesting, and a new answer to all those that claim "Etrex can't display OS Maps"! +Unobtainium
If you don't succeed at first, read the instructions Quote Link to comment
