COINTEST: Design your favourite “Thurus”-Edition

And here we go to a very special cointest.

Samples of my new “Thurus”-Geocoin are in and here is the announced cointest:

All you have to do is design your own favourite edition of the Thurus-Geocoin!

To make it easier for you:

thurus-cointest-artwork.jpg

I removed the levels so everything recessed is white and raised (plating) is black.

Use “floodfill” = all related recessed parts will be filled. Makes it much easier for you.

Winning artwork will be made in a 15 coins limited edition (trackable of course).

- Winner will get 3 of these coins for free!

- My girlfriend and I will keep 1 each!

- Remaining 10 coins will added randomly for free to 10 different customers placed a reservation (size or quantity of reservation doesn't matter)!

Just the rules:

- Colour your favourite edition (even MS Paint works :P ).

- Two-Tone is not suitable.

- Don’t forget to make a key for colour and plating.

- Post your artwork here.

- You can post up to 3 editions.

- Cointest ends 10/7/10 10:10 UTC (3 days before reservation ends).

- My girlfriend will choose winning artwork. If she is undecided, will draw.

(Maybe we won't publish the winner, so our cointest stays suspenseful until first coins arrive. :D )

Forgot anything to mention?

GOOD LUCK! :D

Stefan and Thea

And for my 3rd try, Here's Thurus Heavenly Star:

Gray=Silver Glitter KT35000

Dark Blue=Mixed Trans #'s 8 & 9 to make it really dark (can the mint do that?)...or if not possible, #8 over bronze to make it dark

Plating is antique silver--the black area is silver, so it will show up on the back. The white area is bare metal--no enamel on the outside ring of front or the alternate chevrons.

Ok.... I have to say that I have no idea about color numbers, codes etc!

I made 2 plans but I changed a little the first one... on the back! I closed lines so an other color can enter! I think this is not ok for you right?

Anyway...

I will post them here :

1st one:

Metal: satin gold (or shiny gold)

thurus-cointest-artwork.jpg

I do not know if you can do all that.... but:

On the front:

purple = trans

blue = normal

inside design glitter

inside orange = glow!

the round spires glowing yellow!

On the back

the round design with the lines that is green to be green glow

red transparent (I colored the leaves in the red with yellow to show that they will look like that from inside the trans red!)

blue and red in the inside design = glitter

the triangles... green = glow

purple glitter (or normal)

the centre design yellow = glow

round spires green glow

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

second design!

Purple - trans

red - pearl

triagles inside, green & yellow = glow

round spires = yellow glow too!

blue and orange = glitter

the centre red design glitter!

back side:

green = glow

yellow glow

and the strange color inside... the blue-purple.. normal or trans! :P

Hi,

second artwork is possible for front and back.

At first artwork, like you said, the backside isn't possible. :P

(OMG, my english isn't very well ....)

Nice artworks so far :D

Thanks for the cointest, great idea BTW

My first try is dark and moody :D the colours and darker trans all seem to come through on my sample coins despite being on the black nickel plating. But I can imagine this version (if made) would really show off best in the sunlight

WOW!!! I like the Snowy Owl wersion of mar-elendili a lot!!! I had one almost the same for the greek colors and flag! The only different was the Pantone! I do not know if it is different from the other glitter colors! In my vesrion it was light blue (sky blue) glitter!

Well... I will not post it since there is one already here! :D

Here are my other versions!

1) 454.jpg

It is a combination of German and Greek flag colors, but I also put some glow green (green was in use in German national team uniforms!) yellow and looks like swedish flag! :) I did that because the thurus sounds like God Thor of the Vickings! I am probably mistaken but...

metal: satin silver

Green: glow

blue on the edge round : trans

white: normal

all the others glitter!

*** back side colors... green & yellow : glow, blue glitter if possible

------------------------------

Version 2

thurus-cointest-artwork-1.jpg

Back side: all colors glow!

Front side:

Purple : trans

green and orange (in round srires) : glow

Centre design yellow: glow

all other colors (including the yellow in the triangle): glitter

I think I was told from the mint that only one glow color can be used and it can't touch another glow section. Might want to check with whomever is minting these to see if that's still the case before you pick a winner.

I have a sample of my Travelstamp - Europe only in glow-colors, 8 or 10 colors in total I think.

Maybe this was a exception, found an artwork made later with one ladybird in glow color (3 colors) hhmmmm can't remember, have to look for emails later at home.

But I'll ask mint to make sure it is possible, thanks for your tip.

Interesting project do like many that have been illustrated

This one I thought of the fall colours I've seen this past week, I see it on a Shiney Gold coin

thurus-cointest-artworkFall.jpg

Forgot to add that I used PMS color codes 1788 2x; 1805; 172; 123

may be it's the pumpkins that I've been seening boy that did turn out a tad orange

1.) "I think I was told from the mint that only one glow color can be used and it can't touch another glow section."

Mint: Yes, one glow color to be used is preferable, if there are two colors, they can't touch each other.

2.) Gold metallic 871 is not workable for imitation hard enamel (the process for this coin).

Silver plating is workable, however, it's easy to go oxidized, we always use nickel plating instead.

3.) Pantone 291 + clear glitter, is that possible?

Mint: it's no problem to use PMS colors and glittering colors on a product

Those of you made an artwork that is not suitable can replace there artworks!

ATTENTION: COINTEST ALREADY ENDS ON THURSDAY 10-07-2010 10:10 UTC!

My girlfriend is going on holyday on 10-08, so she can't pick out winner on 10-10

Well... probably almost all my coins have the glow problem.... at least on the back side!

Here is an other in 2 version, slightly changed in 2 colors... so nothing really big.....

Metal copper

all colors trans,

I hope the yellowe color on the back (in the line design on the edge) to be clow, and the spiral lines on the front and the centre smallyellow design to be glow!

I am wondering.... if the white are be pearl... will it look nice with all the trans colors ??

Here are the 2 versions

Well at least I remembered something sort of correctly, lol

What about soft enamel with flat epoxy? Since it's a PMS color, that should be doable and in the end makes the coin look the same as imitation hard enamel. Less expensive a process as well ;-)

OK, since two of my submissions have the glow problem, I have reworked them a bit to find different color fillings matching the same theme.

Please disregard my previous versions.

Version #1 : Blazing Thurus

Version #3 : Elven Glow

Version #2 : Snowy Owl remains untouched and submission is still valid.

Thanks for clarification about the glow enamels and for allowing us to rework our versions!

I love this cointest idea. Very generous of you!

I've never designed a coin so I don't know anything about trans/hard/soft or platings. I do know about the pantone chart though, so I used the following colors:

dark 'purple' = #511

light 'purple' = #5145

dark 'blue' = #534

light 'blue' = #536

I think a silver or nickel type plating would be best since that's my preference for blue coins...and I'm never opposed to glitter so I wouldn't mind that at all, but as I said...I don't know what I'm doing. I just like these colors and LOVE your design.

I'm currently at work, so didn't have time to write down all the colors...but will do so if it is chosen.

Because it's early in the morning and I've got coffee on the brain trying to wake up, I'm calling this TOFFEE LATTE - one of my favorite drinks. On shiny gold metal.

I carefully chose colors for their meanings. I am listing in Hex #

Satin Black Nickle Plating on both sides .

The color Black is for strength and authority

Yellow Gold #FBD604 is for wisdom and honor

Orange #FF8000 is for endurance

Green #006B12 is for stability

Blue #00FFFF is for confidence

Purple (Glitter) #800080 is for royalty and nobility

White #FFFFFF is for goodness and purity

Regel Thurus could use these attributes on his long journey.
