Dakota 10 vs Delorme PN-40 vs 60CSX

I know all three units will have take me to a geocache without problems. And i know the 60 does not do paperless geocaching.

However, geocaching is a secondary priority in buying a GPSr unit. What I need is an unit with an Odometer that is accurate with a Average moving speed to be accurate as well. My Garmin Legend H had a great and accurate odomter. Does the PN 60, Dakota 20, and 60CSX have an accurate odometer? The unit would be my bicycle unit for the most part. The Maagellan GC is very inaccurate when comes to Odometer accuracy.

Thanks much for any answers.

Not a odometer expert, but have learned a few things:

  • Up until the recent (Oct 2010) firmware release, all the STM Cartesio units by Garmin (OR, DK, 62/76) were off up to 50% at low speeds, now 2%. In this context slow is less than 3 mph.
  • The Delorme uses the STM Cartesio, but has never had a low speed odo problem.
  • The 60CSx should work well at all speeds

I've walked a known 1-mile loop in the park across the street, and have seen the PN-60 to be accurate to .01%. As MtnHermit implied, the PN-40 uses the same chipset and, presumably, the same algorithms--though I can't say the PN-40 has the same odometer accuracy.

I'm a little embarrassed to confess I have no idea about the moving average accuracy on the PNs. I do know that many of us are not very impressed with the way that DeLorme calculates arrival times on routes.
