exudos123
How would I go about creating a new Location for a Cache using Google Earth Coordinates? Such as: Latitude: 33°59'59.18"N Longitude: 117°47'47.24"W Any help would be great thanks! Quote Link to comment
+dfx
You don't. Instead, you disregard any coordinates from Google and do this: Go to the location and hide the cache. Then use your GPS receiver, engage its averaging function and take coordinates. Double-check the coordinates by walking away, telling your GPS receiver to go to the coordinates and seeing if it takes you there. Then use those coordinates for the cache listing. +Cardinal Red
I tracked down the applicable guideline section that validates what dfx posted above. Also note that Groundspeak uses the DDMM.mmm Format (Degrees, Minutes and Decimal Minutes). In your example you were asking about the DDMMSS.s Format (Degrees, Minutes, Seconds and Decimal Second). You really do need to be aware of the difference. 2.1. Listing Guidelines that Apply to All Geocaches 1. Technical Requirements 1. Listings must contain accurate GPS coordinates. You must visit the geocache site and obtain the coordinates with a GPS device. GPS usage is an essential element of geocaching. Although it is possible to find a cache without a GPS, providing accurate GPS coordinates is an integral part of the activity and must be demonstrated for all cache submissions. For geocaches that include multiple waypoints, please see the additional guidelines specific to those cache types. Click Here for Guideline Link Quote Link to comment
robertlipe
The above answers are correct in recommending you actually use a GPS to record coordinates when placing a cache. But you can set set the preferences in Earth to use the same coordinates format as used in this site. In Earth's preferences, just choose "Degrees, Decimal Minutes" Quote Link to comment
