rjt
Website limits the pics uploaded must be under 100k. But my original pics are always over 400k. I smallerize them, then they become unclear. Some even worse. The website should open the K limit to 500!!! Life short, Hunt more. Link to comment
+Mopar
Are you gonna pay for the 500% increase in bandwidth and storage space? Seriously though, I seem to remember Jeremy making a post that he was going to do just that, but raise the limit even higher then you suggested. Personally, I'm pretty OK with the current limits. While not photo print quality, the current 100k limit is quite acceptable for web images, and if it keeps the operating costs down and the speed up on the server end, I'm all for it. Not sure how you're resizing, but I see 1000's of great looking pics here that are under 100k. Those of us that sometimes have to use a dialup connection really dont want to wait several minutes for one just image on a page to load. +RocketMan
In many cases, I get very good quality full screen images that are under the file size limit. Here is how I get the best picture quality with a file size under 100K. 1. Save the image as a JPEG with 50% (Medium) compression. 2. Use the resize menu on your photo program to resize the image to about 800 x 600 pixels (or 600 x 800 pixels for vertical images). Do a "Save As" on the image and if the resulting file size is too large, keep decreasing the image dimensions in 50 pixel increments until the file size is under the 100K limit. The amount that you will have to decrease the pixel dimensions will vary depending on picture content because JPEG compression will be more efficient when there is a lot of one color like blue sky. It sounds like a pain, but it really goes fast once you get the hang of it. The mistake that many people make is that they keep increasing the JPEG compression level. If you go much below the 50% level, the image will start to look like you know what. Here is an example from one of my cache logs: Good Luck, RM [This message was edited by Rocket Man on July 10, 2003 at 09:38 PM.] Link to comment

+ziggy2000
So my question is, why do my image previews look so doggy??? You know, the one that comes up when you first click the picture icon in the log. From there you can "click to see original image", which looks great. But my previews are horribly blocky and hideous. I've looked at other previews and they look much better than mine, even on images of comparable size and detail. You can see it in my log for GC77BF - my daughter's pic (preview) looks really doggy, while others just an entry or two down look fine. Any idea what might be going on??? Not life threatening, but just a little annoying... Thanks! Marty Link to comment
