+jbell1033
This morning I deleted all stored not found geocaches from my Garmin etrex Vista HCx. I connected to my MacBook pro, uploaded the latest communicator for Mac and prepared to upload several caches. When I click on "send to my GPS" I get the screen that tells it successfully found my unit. When I click on "write" it tells me it has successfully written to my GPS. The when I toggle from "find" to "geocaches" it tells me "NONE FOUND" under the geocache list. I'm sure I did something to cause this, but I can't seem to get it fixed. I've used this GPS successfully for two years and never had a problem. I'm using a macbook pro running osx 10.7.2 Can someone help? Thanks, John Quote Link to comment
+coggins
Try "Search by name", if the caches are not near, they don't show up if you are in Search by my location" Quote Link to comment
+jbell1033
Try "Search by name", if the caches are not near, they don't show up if you are in Search by my location" Thanks for the suggestion, but before I deleted all the caches, even the ones I'd loaded for Oregon still showed up. I was deleting each one individually when I thought I game the system by deleting them all. I've tried caches from with one mile. Nothing shows. I'm in Arizona. +jbell1033
This seems to be an issue with Lion. I went back to an older Macbook running 10.4.11. Loaded the new communicator and then loaded a few caches. Works with the old system. Guess I'll give Garmin a hollar on Monday. John Quote Link to comment
icarian
You aren't the only one. I'm running a Mac with Lion, the current Garmin Communicator Plugin...and I've been trying for three days to figure it out why my "loaded" caches aren't showing on my Etrex Legend HCx. I thought maybe an issue with Firefox, but I had the same issue with Safari. I am essentially doing the same thing as you to get this to load...going to another computer. I'm booting up / updating my old Windows 7 laptop to work this as I type here. NOT ideal. If you hear anything more from Garmin, please let us know. Quote Link to comment
wanderinstarr
New to caching, using Garmin etrex30, have Imac & Windows lap top no problems with lap top but, Imac tells me its loaded to GPS but nothing to be found? any one have a clue. Quote Link to comment
icarian
What jbell posted in Post #4 above (Garmin Communicator working incorrectly with Lion OS) is the issue. Do a problem report with Garmin Support so they know of it. I did get my Windows 7 laptop spooled up and it loaded just fine. Trouble seems to be specific to Lion AFAIK. Quote Link to comment
+2bassetslaves
The same thing happened to me this morning. Tried to load some new caches on my Oregon 450 and nothing loaded. I'm running Mac OS X V10.6.8 Edited January 28, 2012 by 2bassetslaves Quote Link to comment
+MAXNigHT
I too started having trouble with the Communicator plug-in. It seemed like the older one was working just fine, but now when I hit the "write" button, it gives me something that looks like this: /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/GarminGpsControl.plugin/Contents/Resources/GPX10toGPX11.xsl This is using OS X Lion and Firefox 9 As for a work-around, it you save the GPX file, (or files from a pocket query) you can load them using Garmin Basecamp or I actually use a program called MacCaching (http://www.maccaching.com/) which works well. icarian
I didn't have that issue with my Windows 7 laptop, so perhaps the instability is beyond the Mac realm. I just completed a "contact Garmin support" eticket so that they would start getting feedback from the field. Garmin contact about web plugin issue link Quote Link to comment
+AzKat
Ditto... I'm having the same issue. I'm running Mac OS X V10.6.8. This has been very frustrating! Quote Link to comment
+jbell1033
Thanks for the link, icarian. I filled out the form this evening and sent it off. John Quote Link to comment
+The Mekon
I'm having the same problem (iMac/Lion), thought my Dakota 20 had died, till I tried downloading from laptop/Windows 7. Have sent ticket to Garmin. Quote Link to comment
+2bassetslaves
I tried the above suggest work around last night - loading the GPX files through MacCaching but that didn't work either. Today I took the GPX files that had saved to my iMac hard drive and drug them to the GPX folder on my Oregon 450. It worked! I'm going caching!! Quote Link to comment
icarian
Don't mean to spam this thread, but I received an email update from Garmin concerning this. Paste is below. BTW, thanks John. //email follows// Thank you for contacting Garmin International. We have been made aware of the issue and are working toward a fix. Currently, it seems that only the geocaching sites are seeing this issue on the Mac. All other Garmin sites should be able to use the Communicator Plugin 4.0.1 on a Mac without issue. Please let me know if you have any other questions. With Best Regards, Sam T Software Support Specialist Software Team Garmin International Quote Link to comment
+jbell1033
I too, received a reply: Unfortunately, this is an issue we have been able to duplicate on our end. The issues lies with the latest version of the Communicator Plugin on the newer Mac computers. We are working as soon as possible to resolve this issue with the Plugin, but unfortunately I do not have a time of when we expect to have an updated Communicator Plugin available. Please keep checking this page to see when we have released a newer version of the Communicator Plugin: http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=3739 The current version is 4.0.1, so when this number is higher the issue should be resolved. In the meantime, you can manually send the Geocaches with our free application BaseCamp: From the Geocaching websites, save the geocaches as .GPX files Import this file into BaseCamp. To download BaseCamp, please visit our site here: http://www.garmin.com/us/products/onthetrail/basecamp You can then transfer the Geocaches within BaseCamp to the eTrex Vista HCx Please let us know if you need further assistance with BaseCamp and the GPX files. Have a good week, and please reply for further assistance. With Best Regards, Joel An. Software Support Specialist 2nd Shift Software Team Garmin International Quote Link to comment
+coggins
Link to v3.0.1: http://gawisp.com/perry/macintosh/CommunicatorPluginforMac_301.dmg Quote Link to comment
+h2o z
Well, it looks like coggins has the solution at least for the time being. He didn't explain what his link was but simply the old plug-in will work with Lion on the Mac. Go through the download process and disregard anything that tells you that a newer version is available. It's working for me now. Quote Link to comment
