+HEADLANDERS
This feature was really useful both for planning a cashing trip to get an idea of distance to walk and also when placing new caches to make sure of separations. Surely this wasn't a cost issue. Please replace it. Quote Link to comment
+bdmkec
I agree full heartedly. It's hard to get a sense of how far apart things are if there are no distance marker scale - especially when looking at unfamiliar areas. I came to this forum looking for a discussion about this topic & was glad to see it was here. Quote Link to comment
+Lil Devil
Groundspeak is using the Leaflet library for map control. This library is open-source and there is a ticket open for adding a scale marker. Maybe you can help? Quote Link to comment

Why can this not be reinstated without Google maps?. Quote Link to comment
+Camper John
Some type of 'scale or distance' legend is a huge requirement. Please bring back ASAP. Quote Link to comment
+The A-Team
Groundspeak is using the Leaflet library for map control. This library is open-source and there is a ticket open for adding a scale marker. Maybe you can help? Groundspeak already had the 'Scale Marker' on the old maps for the Openstreetmap view. Why can this not be reinstated without Google maps?. Presumably, they were not using the Leaflet library on the Beta Maps, and whatever they were using had a scale. And before anyone says "Why don't they just switch back?", I doubt they're just going to throw away all that development work for the sake of a little black line. Quote Link to comment
+Lil Devil
"Why don't they just switch back?" The beta maps did not work on mobile devices. The switched to Leaflet for better performance on those devices. According to some other threads, it does look like there are still some lingering issues, but they seem minor and easy to overcome given a little time. As far as the scale, I know there are some very capable software engineers that geocache and have begged in the past to be able to contribute code to the website. Here's their chance. +LordNycon
I completely second this. With the current maps it is almost impossible to guess longer distances, e.g. when planning a biking trip with a few caches in between. Quote Link to comment

+Valentijn77
Good news, the feature has been added to the Leaflet library: https://github.com/CloudMade/Leaflet/issues/409 @Groundspeak please upgrade so we can use the map again Quote Link to comment
+Valentijn77
The leaflet library now supports a scale on the map. Would be very helpful for planning/research caching trips. And also I remember one of my first lessons at school about maps. 1. Include a legend (is that what's called in english??) 2. Include a scale Quote Link to comment
Pup Patrol
Is this not already covered by: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=290468 B. Quote Link to comment
Moun10Bike
Merging duplicate topics. FYI, Leaflet just this week added a scale bar to their library. We will be implementing it in our next release. Quote Link to comment
