Pocket Query, Doesn't Give Every Cache

I want to run a pocket query that shows every cache in my search parameters. This would include founds, not founds, ones that i own, and ones that i have on ignore,,, every cache. The problem seems to be the caches that i have on ignore, i think. Clicking the "That, are on my ignore list" button changes the listings somewhat but whether it's clicked or not, i still am not able to get every cache in the query.

Imo, it shouldn't matter if i have caches on ignore or not. I should be able to get every cache up to the number i requested and in the search radius i requested, if none of the search paramter buttons are clicked.

Am i missing something? Any ideas?

Thanks!

Without knowing the specifics of your PQ I can't say for sure, but this sounds to me like a query that is returning many more results than can be included in the PQ. This sort of behavior happens, for example, if you set up a PQ in a cache-dense area to return 500 caches within 200 miles of an origin when there are thousands of potential caches within that 200 miles. What caches get included or dropped in these cases depends on how the results are being returned from the database. Since distance from some arbitrary origin is not stored in the database, you very rarely will get all of the caches meeting the criteria that are closest to the origin.

What Moun10Bike said. If your distance is too high, it may not return what you're expecting. If you want all caches in a certain range, just make sure ALL checkboxes under the "That (And)" section (like "I haven't found", "I have found", etc.) are NOT checked. Checking any one of these options can exclude caches. Also, the ignore list option is actually labeled "Are not on my ignore list", so it will exclude any caches you've added to your ignore list.

With a position centric query, the system USED to eliminate the caches furthest from the center. Political boundary queries started with the oldest and when they hit the max, they stopped. Routes were always "iffy" but I would think the political boundary type cutoff (show oldest and stop when full) would work well here.

Isn't it possible to put an "order by" clause in the selection so it's predictable again?

To clarify. I'm not trying to get every cache within 100 miles.

For instance, I tried to run a query where i wanted to see all caches in the nearby state park. There are around 30 i suppose within a radius of 3 or 4 miles. I centered my query on one of the caches near the middle of the park. I didn't bother adjusting the search radius on the query as i knew it would definitely cover the park. I did limit the number of caches to 50 because i knew that would definitely cover the ones in the park. I did not check any other boxes.

Just tried this again, centered on GC1HD9V, and i'm still not getting all the caches. I see that at least two caches GC18MJ2 and GCMZAE are not showing up. The query included caches that are farther out than these two so i know they are within the search distance.

The common thing i have on these caches are that they are on my ignore list. Even so, i would think they should show up in the query.

By the way, This seems to be the way things work when i go to "view larger map" on the center of a cache page. Also when i click on "find all nearby caches". All caches show up except for the ones i have on ignore.

To see them, i have to go to my profile and manually "un-ignore" them.

Are you checking the results by actually running the query and looking at the GPX file, or just looking at the "preview" online?

The "preview," similar to any other search online, will never show caches that are on your Ignore List.

However, the Pocket Query, when actually run and delivered as GPX, should respect the "Are not on my ignore list" setting in the PQ setup.

We have a winner! The actual downloaded query has the missing caches. This just doesn't make sense to me. The preview should be identical to the actual query.

To sum it up,,, The preview has 50 caches in it but none that are on my ignore list. The actual query that i download has 50 but has the ignored caches. So now it's deleted caches that were in the initial preview that i may have been interested in. I just have to wonder what i may have missed by relying on the preview all these years?
