I had planned to give them out to people who came and saw my lights (it's my first year of doing Light-O-Rama with 48 channels) but I find out that I cannot list as a cache? What I planned was to have people email me the most prominant 3 numbers they see from the coordinates - these would be the FM numbers for the music on a lighted sign (like 88.9). Since I live in a cul-de-sac the center would be ground zero and the cache would have specific times like 6pm-10pm. Any ideas for what I could do? Fineskin & Co. Quote Link to comment

Get geocachers to visit? Temporary caches can't be published, all caches should be in place for at least a year. Virtual caches are not allowed anyway. I personally would pick one night and hold a geoevent in your yard. I don't know if your reviewer would allow it, but maybe have each cacher pick a time to watch the lights and trade stories/bugs before leaving so the next group can fit. Depending on the number of people, hold 3 light shows 45 minutes apart or so. Quote Link to comment

+dprovan Posted September 20, 2012 Share Posted September 20, 2012 An event might be exactly what you want, but if you're interested in a physical cache, you just need to worry about making it permanent -- perhaps just leave the sign showing the FM station up year round -- and about how to have a cache with the initial coordinates being in the center of your street -- perhaps a multicache. Those don't seem like huge problems. There's a multicache in my area that broadcasts an FM show for 2 hours every afternoon. You have to figure that out, go to that location, figure out the frequency, listen to the show, and get the information that tells you where you'll find the physical cache further up in the neighborhood. They prohibit commercial events and events for the purpose of going geocaching. If I where to do an event I'd invite cachers over for coffee/hot chocolate, maybe cookies. if enough people show up draw for the trackables, if not then everyone gets one. Since it's Xmas maybe have them as presents under a tree maybe an ammo can for some lucky attendee. Quote Link to comment

Or maybe it might be fun to watch geocachers come for months to come! There are a number of people who have permanent caches in their yards, I can imagine it would be a great way to meet your fellow geocachers and entertaining as well! Quote Link to comment

We love meeting cachers who come to our house. We have one on the electricity post at the edge of of property. We live close to a summer tourist area so we get a lot of tourists from far way in summer. If they know we are cachers or if they see my GEOCACH license plate, they may come to the door and we certainly enjoy meeting them. One came while I was mowing the lawn and didnt know we were cachers. If your neighbors' homes are nearby, please make it clear on the cache page which house is yours.
