Suggestion to improve cachers logs

I put quite abit of effort into many of my caches to try and earn fav points.

I LOVE when seekers of my caches reward me with a log of their adventure, some are very well done and I've enjoyed a good chuckle once or twice because of the logs (it's a real disappointment when I've made a big effort to make a special cache and I get a log that says, 'TFTC' or 'found').

I have a suggestion on how to encourage cachers to write an actual log rather than just 'TFTC' or 'found'. It would be nice if COs could rate the logs posted on their caches. Maybe with a star rating scale or a fav point. When a geocacher gets so many 'log points' they could earn a souvenir for their profile. Does anyone else feel this would be a good idea?

One more thing that a cache owner is expected to do.

Those who want the award, but don't want to bother typing, could just copy & paste from someone else's log from another part of the world.

I think this has zero chance of effectively accomplishing what you want.

It seems that many suggestions come up over time about small issues that aren't really important and some make work for people. While this annoys some people (and not that many it would seem) it isn't worth getting the knickers in a bunch. Remember the serenity prayer

The courage to change the things I can,

And the wisdom to know the difference.

You could change line one to

I'd think most would agree that a quick look on any one of the leaderbord sites shows that this would simply be turned into just another stat exaggeration.

I'd rather see a "TFTC" than an insincere log grubbing for some sort of reward.

Furthermore, someone logging "TFTC" is not likely to be interested in earning a reward, anyway.

The key here is not to see "TFTC" as a negative. Worst case, it's a zero: just pretend they didn't find your cache at all. Don't let "TFTC" logs reduce the value of all the good logs you get.

I agree with narcissa. You would be getting a lot of smoke being blown up your ________. You are also far from alone in your disappointment in "TFTC' and "Found" logs.

+1

Some logs are fun to read and some are disappointing. I figure that the "TFTC" writer is busy (maybe perpetually busy) and so I just enjoy the longer logs.

While I'm not a fan of TFTC, I don't even see it as a zero. They are at least typing the initials, and I do believe they are at least very mildly grateful, or they would not be caching at all.

When I first started caching 7 years ago, I had no idea that I was *SUPPOSED* to write anything more than a word or two in a log. I thought "TFTC" or "Found it!" was expected.

It wasn't until I actually became a cache owner that I truly appreciated the longer logs that were well written, descriptive, and entertaining. Since that point on, I've made every effort to write logs that I would enjoy reading myself (with the exception of a few less-than-stellar caches that were best left undescribed - if you can't say something nice...).

I'd rather see some type of automated message that appears when a one or two word log gets submitted... something to the effect of "Really? You wrote one word to describe a cache that's a 4 difficulty puzzle? This thing has over 50 favorite points!! You can't be serious..." :P

Me, too. It's funny; you start caching thinking it's about one thing, only to find out it's really about something else.
