+Insp Gadget
I connected my MG to my laptop via the serial port for the first time today. As soonas i did this, the mouse pointer went all crazy and I was unable to do anything. Does anyone know why this is happening and what I can do to fix it? Quote Link to comment
+Cornix
Looks like they are sharing the same COM port. Can you give us some information on Windows version, number of serial ports, plug type of the mouse (serial/ps2/usb)? Cornix Quote Link to comment
+Insp Gadget
I have a Compaq laptop with the built in touch pad. I have no idea how many ports there are, but I know I have 1 serial and 2 USB ports. Quote Link to comment
+Stunod
This might help if you are running WinXP: quote:Unplug your GPS from the system Disabling serial mouse devices by doing the following: Right click My Computer Select Properties Select Advanced Tab Select Settings in Startup and Recovery Select Edit add /NoSerialMice (this is case sensitive so add it exactly as shown here) to the line that looks like: multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)XP="Windows XP" /fastdetect so that it now reads: multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)XP="Windows XP" /fastdetect/NoSerialMouse File -> Exit Save yes OK and reboot Once rebooted re attach your GPS. Clown Knife
Your MeriGold is using the same IRQ as your mouse. You need to change the setting for either one of them. If you have a MODEM installed, it could be affected also. Typically the mouse is assigned to COM1 and the MODEM to COM2. No problem. But, since COM1 and COM3 share the same IRQ, when you attach the MeriGold to the available serial port, it is probably assigned to COM3 and that is why the mouse goes whacko. Look in your Device Manager to determine what ports the mouse and or modem are assigned, then change them so there is no conflict with the serial port for the MeriGold. Quote Link to comment
