MarcusArelius
If you have not made any plans for next weekend you are formally invited to join us for a bike ride from Snoqualimie summit to North Bend on Saturday. Ridin the Iron Horse It is kind of a last minute cache machine on bikes. There are 12 caches along the route. Also a cool long tunnel. Quote Link to comment
lucyandrickie
We've done about half of the caches but it's such a nice ride maybe we'll do it again! Will have to talk to Rickie... Quote Link to comment
nolenator
I have been saying that I can't wait to try L&R's cache near the tunnel again, there was way too much snow the last time. Now I just have to push starting the new deck a little farther. Peace, Nolenator Quote Link to comment
+WeightMan
I'd love to do this, but for three very good reasons. 1) I don't own a bike (I could probably rent one someplace or other) 2) I have not ridden one in 45 years or so (I know you never forget) 3) I will be out of town that day (nothing I can do about that one) Quote Link to comment
+cooperdog
Looks like a hoot. I love mixing alternate modes of transportation on my caching adventures. I will be out of town at Lake Chopaka that weekend trying to catch LARGE trout with small flies. Have fun all. Quote Link to comment
+leatherman
Well I guess mountain biking is nearly as good as motor riding. Are dogs ok? Mine would love this. Quote Link to comment
+Wienerdog
Shoot! We don't have bikes. This sounds like a fun trip though! Quote Link to comment
nolenator
Mickey D's as a final? I seem to remember a good grill and pub around on main street. NORTH BEND BAR AND GRILL Oh yeah, you now have a bike mechanic on board. Whoo Hoo! The deck can wait for another day. Peace, Nolenator Edited May 24, 2004 by nolenator Quote Link to comment
+leatherman
I seem to remember a good grill and pub around on main street. Mmm. Steak and BEER. Quote Link to comment
MarcusArelius
I don't know about any dog prohibitions. You rarely run into anyone else on the trail anyway. A pub is fine with me. I just suggested McDonalds becuse that is where my kids and I always end up. Quote Link to comment
MarcusArelius
Since a few people asked I thought it would be prudent to set a common drop off point at the end of the ride so I just added this text to the cache page: I would suggest that people meet up to drop cars and transfer bikes at the outlet store parking lot around 8AM. It's right off exit 31 about N47 29.520 W121 47.835. Quote Link to comment
+The Jester
Let's see if I have this right: Leave on trip at 9am, lunch at 1pm, hmm..., 15 minutes per cache would be 3 hours so inbetween caches we will be doing 25 MPH! Ouch, on a dirt track even! How am I supposed to watch the GPSr at that speed, not to mention the hot brakes at each stop. Quote Link to comment
+Bull Moose
not to mention the hot brakes at each stop. Don't worry. The rain will cool your brakes. Edited May 26, 2004 by Bull Moose Quote Link to comment

I didn't remember to consider there would be 5 more caches this time. However, the caches that I have done are not hard hides and we will have many eyes looking. I guess the options are to bring a snack, or stop at Rattlesnake lake to picnic. Quote Link to comment
+leatherman
So far the projected weather is still going to be partly cloudy. The best weather of the weekend. Quote Link to comment

+leatherman
Does anyone else have a Rino to play with, or should I just leave mine at home. Edited May 28, 2004 by leatherman Quote Link to comment
nolenator
I have two FRS radios that I was planning on bringing. One for me and one for someone else to use for the day. Peace, Nolenator Quote Link to comment
+leatherman
I would rather use my Motorola radio if I had a choice in radio performance. I would like to play around with the Rino, however I'm not carrying both. Quote Link to comment
+leatherman
So. Are we picnicking at rattle snake? Going to McDucks or the B-n-G? Do I need to pack a lunch, or light treking snacks? Quote Link to comment
nolenator
I am packing a lunch just in case. My wife's hiking partner bailed so I am flying solo. Three seats and bike mount open coming from West Seattle. Nobody has mentioned it, but I think a forest pass or five bucks in needed at the trailhead at the top. Peace, Nolenator Edited May 29, 2004 by nolenator Quote Link to comment
+leatherman
I have an Astro van. Might be a good shuttle at the bottom. I have a forest pass too. I can hang it on the mirror of a vehicle at the trail head. Suppose we will discuss this at the outlet store. Quote Link to comment
+The Jester
Does anyone else have a Rino to play with, or should I just leave mine at home. I'll have mine (110) with, along with several extra FRS radio's if people want to borrow them. Quote Link to comment
+The Jester
Any thought to renaming this - ala Snolympia Cache Machine - to Raining the Iron Horse? Quote Link to comment

Peace, Nolenator I was still planning on eating in North Bend in someplace warm. I hope people eat a good breakfast and/or bring a snack. About the parking I thought I read on the park web site that you only needed the forest pass during the winter. See ya all in the morning. We can work out the details then. Quote Link to comment
nolenator
Yet another reason to go to the grill, they have a big stone fireplace and beer. Peace, Nolenator Quote Link to comment
MarcusArelius
Boy was I floored when almost 30 folks showed up for this event on a rainy holiday weekend with only a weeks notice. Wow, I had fun even if it was a little on the wet side. At least we didn't get struck by lightning or sucked up by a tornado! I can't wait to see the pictures, especially Nolenator standing thigh deep in the water! The end was great too, I hope Runhills isn't the jealous type Quote Link to comment
+hydnsek
Thanks, Mark, for arranging this! It was great fun - meeting new folks; hobnobbing with old, er, familiar folks; trying to get my hands on the Precious (coin). Agree with Jester - "Raining the Iron Horse" is the perfect name for this one! I hope there will be more of these impromptu outdoor-oriented events. Everyone just pick a hike/bike trip they want to do with a few caches along it, and voila! Quote Link to comment
+evergreenhiker!
Hey thanks everybody for replacing my cache! That last finder must not have rehid it well or something. Thanks again!! Quote Link to comment
+TotemLake
I just went through all the logs! Yikes Jester! What's up with those flats? Tires too skinny? Looked like it was fun for all! Quote Link to comment
nolenator
Feet wet, no problem. Smiling cachers, good feeling. Peace, Nolenator Quote Link to comment

I was cursed by the Moun10Bike Madness coin because I was riding a road bike. Yes, it has skinny tires, but I had gone over half way before any problems, and then the next several miles were hard on my rear tube. And no, it wasn't an old tube, at the first flat I changed it. BEWARE THE CURSE! Quote Link to comment
