I felt bad about distracting the cache container thread, so I started a new one

Moderator said:
"Just to clarify. only the general location (based on the coordinates given) was given the OK, as far as proximity issues were concerned. You said nothing about how you intended to place the cache."

Yes you are correct. I would be willing to move the cache a few feet, but I dont wont to be met with the same issue when completed.

However I dont feel that I did anything wrong, and would like to personally meet a review at the site. How do you propose I resolve this issue?

Question for the masses about cache tampering?

I have a geocache that is rather "well" placed. Its not terribly hard to find and my rating of it is a 2. It cannot be obviously seen but it is all white and about a quart size. The terrain however is rather dangerous, not hard to get to, and requires nothing more than guts, but a wrong move or slip in the last 5 feet could be bad. Therefore I rated it as a 4. Now the question is, is it normal for a cacher to tie a string to it, to make it easier, and safer to get for others? Thus taking a 4 difficulty and making it a 1.5 at best. I was not advised of this change, nor was it logged by whom ever did it. Im not mad about this, but I did put it back, to the way it was intended. I guess I'm just looking for comments on this. . . . .anyone?

"Extreme" event caches

I'm just wondering if anyone could give some feedback about experiences they've had with regards to slightly extreme or remote event caches they've organised or been to.

I'm currently in the advanced stages of setting up an event cache for early next year, set in a hostel in central Wales' rural mountainous terrain (Wales, United Kingdom) roughly an hour away from "civilisation". No electricity, no phone signal and with the time of the event, the evening will be lit by gaslight and and heated by an open hearth fire. All refreshments are brought by (and possibly cooked by) visitors. It would be easy to visit the location as a day visitor without paying the extremely modest fee of £10 ($17) for an overnight stay - and I've checked that it doesn't break any rules for event caches.

The location is the Dolgoch hostel, featured here: http://www.elenydd-hostels.co.uk/

I've already had enough positive feedback from local cachers that this is going to be popular - many already wanting to spend the night in this location that has no technology, no electricity and quite often, no running water too!

So - it would be interesting to hear what other people's experiences are in ... erm, more unusual event caches!

Is there a limit to how many caches a person can own? How can a cacher own hundreds of caches & maintain them properly?
I know there's probably a topic about this somewhere, but the "search" isn't working for me. Anyway, I'm starting to think about where I want to go on vacation next year; however, I'd like to make it a geocaching vacation--a whole week of geocaching. Any suggestions on where to go? I want to stay in the U.S., and preferably in just one place for a week. No kids--it's just my spouse and me. Thanks for any input!

We like the outdoors so camping or staying in a lodge or cabin would be ideal. I'd like to find a lot during the week, and traditional caches are my favorite. Not into big cities....like the country.

Geo Caching meets Book Crossing

Here is a different twist for larger caches. I know of a few cachers that are interested in Book Crossing. Book crossing is when you leave a book you have read in a public place for someone else to pick up. What if... There was a way we could leave books in larger caches and have the titile of the book show on the cache listing. Similar to how coins and bugs show. Then if someone wanted to read that book they could go get it. Just a thought.

Airport layover bookmark list

Howdy. We've benefited from many an airport stopover cache and wanted to put a master list together. Kudos go to Mensa2, who has a great list of European airport caches, for getting us started.

So far we've identified over 100 caches in or near international and larger regional airports around the world. (Though we did stop at three caches for Copenhagen and didn't list all eight or so.) The idea is that a traveler can either log the cache without leaving the airport or can nab it after a short walk or shuttle ride.

Please take a look at the list. If you know of a cache we missed that you think belongs on the list, let us know. Or, if you see a cache on the list and you don't think it should be a layover cache, let us know that, too!

The list is here:

http://www.geocaching.com/bookmarks/view.a...93-a83af5089ebe

Thanks,

Christian & Kelly (hzoi)
