Temporary Event Caches

I would like to know if there is a way to upload a large number of temporary waypoints to a Event Cache page.

Some history, reason behind this quezstion.
For the past few years the Geocaching group, that I'm a member of, has put on two event. A fall event (around the middle of October) and a winter event (around the first of February). So far each year we have put out more and more temporary caches for these events. Our last fall event we had 170 temporary caches. Thus far our events have been really successful and fun. We always have a GPS loading station at our events and generally have at least two club members loading participant's GPS with the temporary caches coordinates. The problem we ran into at our fall event is with the ever growing number of GPS units on the market and it seems each and every one has a little different communication protocol, we had problem loading the temporary caches (Didn’t have the right cables, didn’t have the specific software loaded, etc.).
It would be nice if there was a way to upload the temporary waypoints to the event’s Geocaching.com page say the day before the event so people can down load and install the waypoints themselves before coming to the event. We would still have our GPS upload stations available but we could them list on our page the GPS models we know we can upload to and suggest users of GPS units not in the list download the waypoints and load their GPS units before coming to the event.

Thank you!

Account renewal with firefox a no go?

Hi,

I tried to renew my account with firefox 3.5.5 severeal times. After pressing "go to next step" (or something like that) the website always redirected me back to the page where I had to enter all the credit card infos.
After switching to IE (hoping that god would forgive me, but I was desperate to renew my account!) there were no problems.

I'm sure, Groundspeak don't want to only let IE users pay their bill

Ciao,
Haferle

Fix Lightbox or get rid of it.

OK, I am really annoyed. I am working on a puzzle cache that has an image attached to the cache that is required to solve the puzzle. There is no easy way to save that image to my disk, because the Lightbox display script won't let me. The CO didn't display the image on the page itself; you just have to get it via the link at the end of the listing. The poorly-written Javascript actually intercepts a right-click and prevents you from copying the link location. I've had to resort to hand-inspecting the page HTML code to get it.

It's bad enough that the Lightbox image display script is an unbelievably bad user interface (try using the back button when viewing an image to see how it doesn't work like it ought to), but now it is preventing me from using the site!

Could we please have some way to disable the stupid Lightbox thing? Please?

ETA: I figured out another way past it. Disable Javascript. Still needs to be fixed.

PQ on my Colorado shows all caches as traditionals

Help please! A couple of days ago I changed my usual PQ to include the query name in the file. I ran the query, loaded it, and set off this morning. When I looked at my GPSr all the caches were showing as traditionals, which was very frustrating as I couldn't easily spot the earthcaches!

I have now switched the name option off, and rerun the query. I get the same thing.

I have run another PQ without changing it in any way, and that one is fine, I can see all the different icon types on the GPSr.

Has the "renaming" of the file corrupted the PQ for ever? Do I need to recreate it from scratch?

center geocaching maps around home coordinates

Hi there,

everytime I try to access the geocaching map (http://www.geocaching.com/map/default.aspx) the map is centered around a lake in Seattle. Since I, not unlike many other cachers out there, live and cache a long way from Seattle, the displayed information is basically worthless for me.

I would love to see the geocacing map to be centered around my (respectively every other geocachers) home coordinates. To top even that it would be great if we could get some sort of option that allows us to set our own default map settings, like center point, zoom level, cache types displayed, etc.

I'd love to read some comments on my idea (even though I can't believe no one else thought of it before)

thanks
llama-power

I just spent the greater part of a few hours searching for caches in a particular area and looking for ones with trackables. To my dismay, the majority of the bugs that were listed in the caches had notes saying the bug was missing. Some of the bugs have been missing for over a year. How about creating a new log type called "Not in Cache" that cachers can use to mark the trackables as missing. Furthermore, after say 5 (or whatever number of these log types you desire) in a row, the bug gets automatically moved to the cemetery.

This way the amount of clutter from bugs not being in caches is reduced. How's that sound?
