Calikat Posted June 6, 2003 Posted June 6, 2003 I have been geocaching for a while now and I keep seeing this on a lot of logs(TNLNSL). what does this mean? And is there any other similiar to this as well? Thanks Alikat Quote
+RainDog Posted June 6, 2003 Posted June 6, 2003 Took Nothing, Left Nothing, Signed Log. A lot of folks do this for the chase, not the items in the cache. I for one just take certain items and for those I leave something but if a cache doesn't have what I collect I just staple a card in the log with the time and date on it. If the cache has few items in it I'll leave something to help populate it. Don't you know there ain't no Devil, that's just God when he's drunk. Quote
+CurlyKrakow Posted June 6, 2003 Posted June 6, 2003 T.ook N.othing L.eft N.othing S.igned the L.og I probably do this more 50% or more of the time these days. If I come across cache contents I'm not interested in, why take something someone else might really enjoy just for the sake of having traded _something_? The hunt is the biggest reward anyways, and I've always got some prime goodies with me if there is something interesting I want. How's SLV/SV these days? I think I almost did one of your caches when I was up there visiting some family in March. +flask Posted June 7, 2003 Posted June 7, 2003 i like to think of the SL as Said Little, but given the novella like qualities of many of my logs, tnlnsl is a STATEMENT on my part. it doesn't matter if you get to camp at one or at six. dinner is still at six. Quote

+Huntnlady Posted June 7, 2003 Posted June 7, 2003 Here is my caching page on Acronyms. If you put TNLNSL in one of my cache logs, I will take it as a personal insult. This game is all about the people involved in it, and the TNLN person tries to stay as uninvolved as possible. Take something and note it- the person who left it will get a little joy that you liked what they left. Leave something, something preferable homemade or a signature item that says something about yourself. Leave a long log, they're interesting reading, and a chance for a chuckle or to learn something. How much more boring can it be: TNLNSL, Thanks for the cache. Talk about trained chimps! Deer laugh when they hear my name! http://www.geocities.com/cacheinon Quote

It doesn't take long to leave something in the log that will give some pleasure and satisfaction to the owner. My favourite cache (that I have placed) has a gorgeous walk through fields and finishes with a spectacular view. Most people have really liked it. Yesterday, at the end of a beautiful sunny day I got an e-mail notification of someone finding it - I was waiting in gleeful anticipation as the e-mail was opening - imagine my dissapointment when all the log said was: "Stinging nettles are in full regalia so BE CAREFUL!!! Skirt around the blighters. My ankle didn't. Ohh! ohh! Itch! Itch! 1 of a 7 cache day!" I don't think he meant any harm (and I don't mind him pointing out the nettles) --- but he could have at least said he liked the view. (but then maybe he didn't....) I have never in my life learned anything from any man who agreed with me. Quote

I wouldn't take it personally if someone chooses to sign the log and not leave something, or doesn't leave an interesting anecdote, etc. If you want that stuff from people you should note it on the Cache description; many have done just that, and from what I've seen many cachers will usually oblige if you ask... I would hesitate to say that people who write "TNLNSL" are trying to be as uninvolved as possible... I would think they are just abiding by their own personal habits and comfort level, as well as the traditions/folkways of the game itself. I don't know, I'm a newby... is this an issue for a lot of cachers? what's the solution? Quote

Based on your previous posts (anti-micro is the one that comes to mind), it's an awful small box you have for _all_ geocachers to fit in, huh? Some people like letterboxes, some multis, others puzzle or virtuals. I do what I do, they do what they do - no harm, no foul. I'd much rather see TNLNSL from someone who just likes the finding and not the trinkets anyday, rather than "Took all the good stuff, left it out in the open, then forgot to log it in the book or online." Put it all in a larger context and then let others cache their own way huh? CK -- Geocaching: The World's Finest Outdoor Geeking "Oh, look at me.
