Do you have a specific itinerary? That would help. We've got some great cachers in Alaska that can help get coords for you. We may even be able to set up a bookmark list for you of all the caches that can be reached from the docks.

I'm in Washington so can't directly help, but I didn't want you to think we were an unfriendly bunch.

Here are approximate coordinates for the cruise ship dock and zip codes for several ports for your query pleasure. 3 Happy Campers live in Juneau and might be able to help you further.

Juneau: N58° 17.150' W134° 23.510' ZIP: 99803

Skagway: N59° 26.980' W135° 19.310 ZIP: 99840

Ketchikan: N55° 20.470' W131° 38.890 ZIP: 99901

If you make it to Anchorage, check out the bookmark lists in the recently bumped :blink:Traveler Friendly Alaska Caches thread. Also, check out Cent5's cache listing toward the end of the Great Alaska Cache and Dash thread.

Have a great trip!

Edited to add link to Alaska Traveler and Alaska Cache & Dash treads.

I only managed to find one on my cruise..... ;)

I think it was because I was not prepared. Now that I am paperless I would have had a gpx file for each port.

Guess that is one reason to cruise alaska again ;)

We found that same one on a cruise as well. We rented the bikes at the end of the dock and rode out to it. The park just past the bridge was great. We NeVeR would have found that view spot without the cache.

We also had a great afternoon at The Office tavern in Hoonah thanks to a cache. We had such a blast with the locals that we didn't leave enough time to look for the cache on the way back to the tender.

That was one of my DNF's in Skagway. It was a windy rainy day, not suited for searching at where I thought it might be. There are a number of caches well withing walking distance of downtown. If a rental car can be acquired, then several caches might be reachable along the highway into Canada. That's a nice drive that I did many years ago. However, I recomend the train trip up to White Pass. No caches there, but it is a memorable ride.

Juneau has a couple downtown, a nice one on top of Mt. Roberts (take the tram) and some out by the Mindenhall Glacier (that I didn't get out to). It was a very rainy day when I last visited in August and we didn't off the ship till late afternoon.

While in Ketchican, I seem to be the last one to find KETCH ME IF YOU KAN. A couple newbies tried to look for it and couldn't find it. As a result, the out-of-town owner disabled it. :( I suspect that it is still there. It can't be reached while on the trail and to get to it takes a little extra effort, though not at all difficult. It's not something that a muggle would accidently stumble across. It is a nice hike halfway up the mountain with a good view from the cache site - I walked it from the dock and back in 2.5 hours. The only other cache in town is right downtown in a park.

Please, if anyone is in Ketchican, go looking for this cache. :D I left a couple TBs in it that need liberation. :D

If your travel plan includes Whittier (as the northbound end of your float plan) there's some easy to reach caches right in the walking zone of downtown. I'd suggest contacting the primary local cacher there if you're Whittier-bound (a phrase that is such a play on words for people who live in Whittier...) - Bengeo'en - awesome guy! He owns at least half the caches in town, and he can make your visit there a memorable caching experience! By the way... bring raincoats...
