erdos
I'm trying to follow this link to add map to Garmin Basecamp. http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/tutorials/how-to-load-.img-files-into-mapsource-with-mapsettoolkit/ However, I keep receiving the following error when I use Mapset Tool kit(ver1.77). What am I doing wrong? Error PE11: Preview Map has to be less detailed than any IMG file in the mapset. Change level definition in the [MAP] section to a less detailed. has anyone used this tool successfully? Edited August 5, 2015 by erdos Quote Link to comment
+londontavern
The short answer is just leave the 'Overview map' entry blank. I never use it in Mapsource or Basecamp. Don't know if this will help:- In 'MapSeToolKit' select 'install', select TDB file navigate to your map directory and select the *.tdb file. It will then populate the form with the info that it finds in the file. Add a registry name that matches (I think it gets overwritten anyway). In the overview map I select exactly the same 'named' file as it has in the TDB entry BUT this time select the *img file. These are my entries for an OpenStreetMap which is similar to yours. These are all found in the the maps directory. Mapset name:- OSM generic routable Registry name OSM generic routable Product Code 6 Family ID 2000 TDB file:- C:\Garmin\Maps\OSM generic routable\63240000.tdb Overview map:- C:\Garmin\Maps\OSM generic routable\63240000.img Maps Directory:- C:\Garmin\Maps\OSM generic routable TYP file:- C:\Garmin\Maps\OSM generic routable\DGillies.typ If you still have a problem leave the Overview map entry blank (not really neaded unless you use it). The type file is the map style map you may not have one and you don't actually need one, just leave it blank. If you leave it blank it picks up the style that the map was compiled in. The one mentioned is my own style file. If anyone would like a copy then please email me. Quote Link to comment
+londontavern
Forgot to say I have used MapSetToolKit_v1.77 for years with no problems other than from my lack of knowledge. Although I do tend to use the downloaded maps instal *.exe file if it is available to do the hard work. I then use MapSetToolKit to edit/add the Style *.typ file. Quote Link to comment
erdos
i still couldn't get this to work, i reinstalled cGPSmapper as there's several versions (using version 0100d for Windows). and i leave the overview map as blank. the img file i use is a OSM map. family id set to 2000, product id set to 1, code page 1252, draw priority as default, transparency as default, TYP is blank still receiving the same error: Error PE11: Preview Map has to be less detailed than any IMG file in the mapset. Change level definition in the [MAP] section to a less detailed. Quote Link to comment
+londontavern
Have you tried just downloading the *.exe file from OSM for your map and let that do the install. Quote Link to comment
erdos
I have the whole US map downloaded from openmapchest, it's in .img format. ok, i figured it out: I need to point to gmaptool executable as well, even though it says optional in mapsettool's GUI. now i can go through with creating mapset. i tried the CNNA .img file i copied fom my Garmin Nuvi first, it was splitted into many parts from a single .img file. however, the map still doesn't show up in BaseCamp. i've the 'install into mapsource' checked from mapsettool. +Viajero Perdido
None of this will work with copy-protected maps, which I'm pretty sure is the case with CNNA. Those maps are encrypted, and the tools being discussed won't work with them. "Special" tools to deal with encrypted maps are, I'm pretty sure, something we're not allowed to discuss on this forum.
